Our client is seeking an Information Architect and Technical Design Lead to support the modernization of their corporate intranet, migrating capabilities to Microsoft 365 (Edmonton Hybrid preferred).

Overview:

This role leads the design and implementation of a modern M365-based intranet, including governance, information architecture, metadata/navigation strategy, reusable templates, and integration with Teams, Viva Engage, and Viva Connections. The Lead will guide SharePoint Online technical design, support content governance, and oversee delivery in partnership with project teams, developers, and business stakeholders.

Must-Haves:

• 5+ years of experience in information architecture and technical design for Microsoft 365.
• Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise intranets on SharePoint Online (site collections, permissions, content types).
• Expertise in intranet governance, metadata modeling, navigation planning, and template development.
• Hands-on experience with PowerApps, Power Automate, and custom solution implementation.
• Experience integrating intranets with Microsoft Teams, Viva Engage, and Viva Connections.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with ShareGate or other migration tools.
• Experience leading technical teams or overseeing complex migration projects.
• Familiarity with Azure Active Directory and Microsoft Graph API beyond basic usage.
• Experience designing intranets with strong UX principles and modern content practices.
• Experience working in hybrid or Agile project environments.
• Experience developing and delivering training programs for technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and delivery of a modernized corporate intranet on Microsoft 365.
• Define and implement intranet governance frameworks, content lifecycle policies, and standards.
• Design site architecture, navigation, metadata strategy, and reusable templates/components.
• Translate business requirements into scalable IA and technical designs.
• Provide direction to SharePoint Online developers throughout the build process.
• Collaborate with business analysts, content owners, and IT teams to gather and refine requirements.
• Ensure adherence to governance, security, accessibility, and compliance standards.
• Document IA, technical, and design decisions.
• Develop and deliver training materials for content authors and end users.
• Provide technical leadership during migration, deployment, and stabilization phases.
