Senior Draftsman & Document Control Specialist to support drafting and documentation activities for Cable Plant infrastructure within Field Systems

Our large, enterprise Oil & Gas industry client is seeking a Senior Draftsman & Document Control Specialist to support drafting and documentation activities for Cable Plant infrastructure within Field Systems.


This is an initial 1-year contract with a possibility of extension. The successful candidate will be based in Calgary or Fort McMurray and agreeable to working full-time onsite.


Must-Haves:

  • Experience with a combination of practical experience within CAD drafting, engineering document control, and telecommunications infrastructure design
  • Experience with engineering document control practices and records management methodologies
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD drafting software
  • Understanding of network and communications infrastructure fundamentals
  • An approach to quality control and an ability to maintain data integrity across multiple systems


Nice-to-Haves:

  • Diploma in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Experience with Cable Plant Infrastructure or Oil & Gas Field Systems


Key Responsibilities:

Drafting Responsibilities:

  • Create, update, and maintain as-built drawings for the Communications Cable Plant infrastructure
  • Review CAD files to ensure full compliance with drafting and engineering standards.
  • Maintain Infrastructure Engineering drawings using MicroStation, ensuring that all drawing deliverables meet site specifications.
  • Collaborate with Designers, Engineers, and Field personnel to develop and maintain accurate corporate drawings that reflect current installation and field conditions.
  • Contribute technical drafting and design expertise to communications infrastructure projects, ensuring completeness and accuracy in all deliverables.


Document Control Responsibilities:

  • Support drawing revisions and ensure document version integrity.
  • Check out, check in, and close out CERs (Controlled Engineering Records) in accordance with team processes.
  • Issue engineering packages to field construction teams (IFC) and manage documentation through the full project lifecycle, including as-built closeout.
  • Receive, review, and organize all field information to ensure submissions are complete, compliant, and properly processed according to team workflows.
  • Track and report on the status of projects and CERs managed by the team to maintain visibility of progress and outstanding actions.
  • Steward system record retention and ensure compliance with corporate documentation standards and policies.
