Position Overview

We are building the best AI platform in the insurance industry and are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer with strong specialization in Databricks platform administration. This role is heavily focused on owning and operating the Databricks environment, with a profile closer to a Databricks Platform Administrator / DBA than a traditional data engineer or data scientist.

The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience managing Databricks on AWS at scale, including governance, workspace management, performance optimizations, and cost controls. While CI/CD and automation skills are important, Databricks platform expertise is the top priority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and operate the Databricks-on-AWS platform, including workspaces, clusters, governance, performance tuning, and cost optimization
  • Manage and support multiple Databricks workspaces across environments
  • Act as the primary point of contact with Databricks support and account teams
  • Design and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform
  • Build and maintain automation and CI/CD pipelines (supporting capability; not the main focus)
  • Partner with data engineering and data science teams to enable high-impact AI and ML use cases
  • Ensure platform reliability, performance, security, observability, and scalability
  • Drive best practices for Databricks administration, monitoring, and operational excellence

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of overall IT experience, including DevOps in AWS cloud environments
  • 3+ years of hands-on Databricks platform administration experience (required)
  • 5+ years of AWS experience, with strong knowledge of:
  • S3
  • Lambda
  • CloudWatch
  • VPC
  • AWS Backup

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Databricks platform administration (mandatory focus)
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Experience with GitHub, GitLab, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Strong networking knowledge, including VPCs, load balancers, and firewalls

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Docker
  • Background in supporting large-scale data and ML platforms
  • Experience with SageMaker is a strong asset

Professional Competencies

  • Customer-oriented mindset with focus on delivering high-value solutions
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative and innovative approach
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Detail-oriented with high standards for quality and precision
  • Self-starter who can independently drive initiatives from start to finish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong interest in technology and continuous learning
