Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines within Azure

Our large Oil & Gas industry client is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines within Azure.

This is an initial 1-year contract set to start in January 2026. The successful candidate will be based in Calgary - full-time onsite.

Must-Haves:

• 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Azure Data Factory (ADF) for orchestration and workflow management.
• Databricks Python Notebooks for ETL, data transformation, and ML pipelines.
• Python for building robust data pipelines (primarily for ETL and transformation).
• Solid understanding of structured data models, data warehousing, and cloud data architectures.
• Strong SQL skills for querying, transformation, and performance tuning.
• Experience working in Azure cloud environments.
• Proven track record of delivering scalable and reliable data pipelines.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Familiarity with machine learning pipelines in Databricks.
• Experience with Delta Lake, Azure Synapse, or Power BI integration.
• Knowledge of CI/CD for data pipelines and version control (Git).
• Exposure to data governance, metadata management, or data catalog tools.
• Understanding of data security and compliance in cloud environments.

Project Scope: Support the creation of ETL pipelines in Databricks Python notebooks from structured and cloud data sources.
