Story Behind the Need

The GRM Data Governance COE is spearheading regulatory data lineage and data quality uplift initiatives tied to OSFI guidelines (e.g., Guideline E-23, Data Risk). This role provides deep, hands-on lineage and data governance execution, working across Risk, Finance, Treasury, and Compliance.

This is the most senior BA role in the group, requiring both technical depth and leadership-level stakeholder engagement.

Role Summary

The Senior BA - Data Governance will lead end-to-end lineage mapping, implement Collibra governance models, define Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and support data quality control design across regulated functions.

Typical Day in Role

1. Data Governance & Collibra Execution

• Configure Collibra operating models, workflows, domains, and asset types.

• Lead end-to-end data lineage: source ETL warehouse reporting.

• Build metadata for CDEs, DQ rules, and traceability requirements.

2. Business Analysis & Regulatory Mapping

• Translate OSFI requirements into actionable data controls.

• Analyze application code and documentation to identify gaps in lineage or DQ controls.

• Build data flow diagrams and architecture maps independently.

3. Cross-Functional Delivery

• Work with Risk, Finance, Compliance, Engineering & SMEs.

• Manage governance backlog, user stories, acceptance criteria, and UAT.

4. Data Quality Oversight

• Define thresholds, tolerances, defect workflow, and monitoring rules.

• Support creation of data quality playbooks, onboarding documentation.

Must-Have Skills

1. 10+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst

2. 1+ year of hands-on experience with Data governance tools; strong preference for Collibra experience (Governance Center, Catalog, Lineage, Workflow).

3. 2+ years’ proven experience defining CDEs, lineage, and DQ rules for regulated functions.

4. 1+ years’ SQL experience for documenting ETL logic, profiling data, validating rules.

5. 5+ years’ experience as a lead BSA

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Familiarity with SAS Viya, ETL tools (Informatica, ADF, dbt), and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)

- Prior experience with Collibra DQ or integration with external DQ engines.

- Certifications: Collibra Ranger, CDMP, CBAP, FRM, CFA, PMP, or regulatory certifications.

- Experience in Risk functions (credit, market, operational risk), and risk data aggregation

- Experience from FI

Best vs. Average Candidate

Best:

• Can self-sufficiently analyze code to build lineage without developer assistance

• Deep regulatory + data governance expertise

• Proactively identifies control gaps and recommends solutions

• Builds high-quality architecture/data flow diagrams

Interview Process

1. Round 1 - Video (30 min): Non-technical with HM

2. Round 2 - In Person (1 hr): Technical (SQL + governance concepts)
