Senior Backend Engineer to support Fintech Company

Location: Toronto, ON - 4-5 days a week

• Design and build a scalable reporting and compliance platform, transforming existing exports into an intelligent data insights system.
• Source, clean, and analyze data to support business users in generating self-service reports without developer involvement.
• Work on data lake architecture, ETL pipelines, and data integration across trading, risk, and operational systems.
• Implement and optimize backend systems for data ingestion, reconciliation, and reporting.
• Improve platform reliability through better logging, metrics, and monitoring.
• Contribute to overall architecture and design decisions as the reporting engine is rebuilt for scalability and maintainability.
• Hybrid role based in Toronto (4-5 days/week initially for ramp-up; transitions to 3-4 days/week).

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in data-heavy or financial systems.
• Strong experience with data lakes, ETL pipelines, and data modeling.
• Hands-on with Power BI, Elasticsearch (Kibana), and other analytics tools.
• Expertise in Kafka (event-driven systems) and AWS services (Athena, Redshift, S3, Lambda, etc.).
• Familiarity with data marts and data architecture best practices.
• Solid experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and performance optimization.
• Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills; able to work closely with product and engineering teams.

• Background in fintech, trading, or reporting systems.
• Knowledge of Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with information theory or data visualization principles.
• Familiarity with Athena, Redshift, and AWS analytics tooling.
• Prior experience rebuilding or consolidating data platforms from legacy systems.
• Interest or experience in blockchain or decentralized technologies.
