Description
S.i. Systems midsize public sector client is seeking a REMOTE - Part-time adhoc - Senior SQL Database Administrator (AWS certified) to do design, migration, maintenance, administration and support of various database engines (Microsoft SQL, Amazon RDS, Postgres SQL, mySQL).
REMOTE - anywhere in Canada
The service is expected to require part-time effort and fluctuate. As such, there will not be any minimum commitment for the service.
The service is expected to range from planned (project-based) to on-demand (immediate need).
1 year contract + 3 extensions
Requesting Aug 15 start date but we believe this is flexible
MUST HAVE SKILLS
Degree in computer science or related area; or a combination of a diploma in computing plus fifteen (15) years of IT experience out of which a minimum of five (5) years previous experience as a Database design, migration, maintenance administration and support on AWS (Amazon Web Services) platform;
· AWS certified Solution Architect and other relevant certifications;
· Strong ITIL knowledge
· Extensive knowledge of architecture and security of financial applications, automation and privacy.
· Experience with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman or similar;
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS
· Excellent working knowledge about all areas of infrastructure management;
· Sound knowledge of principles, concepts, practices and techniques in the area of specialised computer programs/software;
· Excellent knowledge in Infrastructure Security;
The Contractor will provide an on-demand services for design, migration, maintenance, administration and support of various database engines (Microsoft SQL, Amazon RDS, Postgres SQL, mySQL), both on-prem and AWS platform as a service
Sustainment
The Contractor must sustain the databases. Maintenance requests may be regularly scheduled or ad-hoc on-demand. Details of systems expectations will be discussed during Initial Set-up, Orientation and Knowledge Transfer.
Examples of requests include, but are not limited to:
· monitor application-related jobs and data replication activities;
· perform database tuning and performance monitoring;
· perform general technical troubleshooting;
· provide development teams with consultation;
· back up and restore databases;
· manage and monitor data replication;
· manage and monitor user access to database;
· provide system outage support (i.e. shutdown, start, restart);
· tune database queries;
· implement and maintain database security (i.e. create and maintain users/roles, assign privileges);
· create database objects (i.e. tables, indexes);
· generate various reports querying from database as required;
· install, configure, and upgrade the software and related products;
· maintain archived data;
· modify database structure as required from information given by application developers;
· perform capacity planning;
· write database procedures, functions, and triggers;
· allocate system storage and plan future storage requirements for the database system; and
· assist developers with database activities.
