Our financial services client is seeking a Mainframe Application Developer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, PL/1, JCL, DB2, and VSAM

Duration: 3 months - Short Term Contract with Strong possibility of conversion into full-time positions

Location: Downtown Toronto - Hybrid - 2 days in office (Tuesday and Thursday **subject to change**)

Must Haves

• 3-5 years of mainframe development including COBOL, CICS, PL/1, JCL, DB2, and VSAM
• Proficiency in z/OS environments applying enterprise architecture and security standards
• Hands-on work with EASYTRIEVE and FOCUS scripting on mainframe systems
• Knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow for development coordination
• Post-secondary education in Computer Science or related field

Nice to Have

• Exposure to AI technologies and mainframe modernization initiatives
• Experience with CSF Designer

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, tests, and implements mainframe applications aligned with business and technology requirements.
• Translates business needs into detailed technical specifications and high-quality code.
• Ensures solutions meet enterprise standards for security, performance, and operational excellence.
• Analyzes system impacts across upstream and downstream dependencies.
• Supports production stability through root cause analysis and timely issue resolution.
• Evaluates and recommends improvements to technology, processes, and system efficiency.
• Builds scalable, maintainable, and reusable solutions aligned with enterprise objectives.
• Collaborates with business and technology stakeholders to deliver aligned outcomes.
• Reviews code and provides guidance to support team effectiveness and quality.
• Contributes to development standards, frameworks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Supports delivery of project outcomes and operational priorities.
