Intermediate eDiscovery & Litigation Consultant to support the identification, collection and preservation of court-ordered evidence with one of our major banking clients- 38692
Location Address: Scarborough/ Hybrid- 2 days in-office (will increase to 4 days in future)
Contract Duration: ASAP to 05/31/2026 - 6 months
Schedule Hours: 9am-5pm Monday-Friday; standard 37.5 hrs/week
Story Behind the Need
Business group: Information Security and Control
Project: The eDiscovery & Litigation Operations Support team is globally mandated to preserve, collect, and produce court-ordered evidence without delaying legal/regulatory proceedings. The volume, complexity, and increased governance over the execution of legal/regulatory proceedings has increased significantly requiring the team to provide 24x7 operational support in addition to responsibilities as a key stakeholder in several strategic enterprise initiatives. One new full-time resource is requested to address continuous increase for sustaining enterprise service delivery for preservation/collection/production of evidence within the eDiscovery & Litigation Operations team resulting from expanded global eDiscovery program mandate.
Execute operational activities involving the identification, collection, and preservation of digital evidence supporting legal, regulatory, criminal, and civil investigation matters. Guarantee that all digital evidence gathering and processing methods are forensically viable by following consistent and repeatable processes to maintain the authenticity and integrity of information systems and electronically stored information.
Key Accountabilities
- Execute activities and tasks supporting the identification, collection, and preservation of court-ordered evidence while maintaining effective and clear communication with all appropriate stakeholders
- Manage and maintain a working relationship between technical teams, internal and external counsel, and management to assess and troubleshoot a variety of technical issues.
- Driving initiatives on tasks, problem-solving and “deep diving” on issues to provide solutions
- Guaranteeing that proper chain of custody is maintained, and that evidence gathering and processing methods are conducted following digital forensic principles, methodologies, techniques to guarantee consistent and repeatable processes to maintain evidence authenticity and integrity.
- Maintain current and detailed working knowledge of eDiscovery regulations across all global jurisdictions where Scotiabank conduct business (i.e., US Federal Rules of Evidence) to ensure the Bank’s eDiscovery technology and operational processes are compliant, and meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk (i.e., Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, Guidelines for Business Conduct).
Must have skills:
- 5+ years of experience in security, legal or project manager
- 3+ years of current and working knowledge in all aspects of eDiscovery and Litigation Operations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to work well with technical peers and business stakeholders at different levels within the organization.
- Strong and constant approach to critical thinking, data analytics and problem solving while maintaining both a creative and detailed orientation to job and team accountabilities.
- Experience in using industry standard eDiscovery and digital forensic tools (ex. Relativity, EnCase, others)
Nice to have:
- Demonstrate a current and working knowledge of digital forensic principles/methodologies/techniques, and of Information Security best-practices, methodologies, and techniques.
- Detailed working knowledge of legal and regulatory jurisdictions specific to identification, preservation, collection, and production of Electronically Stored Information (ESI)
- Detailed working knowledge of digital forensic principles, methodologies, and techniques.
- Detailed working knowledge of Information Security best-practices, methodologies, and techniques.
- Detailed working knowledge of data management, information governance, and project management disciplines.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of +3 years of documented and relevant experience.
- Professional certifications and membership of associations in the field of electronic discovery or information/cyber security (i.e., Certified eDiscovery Specialist (CEDS) will be an asset.
Best VS. Average Candidate:
A candidate who has E-discovery experience will stand out to the manager. The next best will be security, legal or project management experience.
