Job Title: BI Engineer
12-month contract;
Hybrid role (2-3 days Work from Office per week based in Toronto 1 York St office);
OVERVIEW
ROLE SUMMARY
As the successful candidate, you will lead the development and maintenance of BI platforms in use at SLC Management such as PowerBI, Tableau, SSRS and Webi. Contribute to AWS and Snowflake-based data pipelines to build dashboards and reports for the internal business teams. The BI Engineer will be responsible for developing reports, performing data manipulation & transformation from raw data, and optimize & maintain data products. This position demands strong technical proficiency, proven leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of industry standards in data and cloud technologies. Ultimately, your contributions will drive best-in-class technology initiatives and capabilities, enabling SLC to achieve impactful business outcomes through the implementation of end-to-end, client-focused use cases.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Design, implement and maintain scalable BI architecture and highly performant BI Dashboards, data models and visualizations.
• Ensure the alignment towards SLC’s Data Strategy while building Analytics capabilities for various internal business teams within SLC.
• Enable self-serve BI using PowerBI as well as help business teams by developing solutions using modern BI platforms such as PowerBI and Tableau.
• As part of the SLC’s Data Platform, support existing reports built in SSRS, Crystal reports and Webi and suggest the optimizations to achieve efficiencies.
• Manage Power BI Service cloud environment, including workspace configurations, permissions, data source connections and security settings.
• Monitor Power BI server health, usage, and capacity planning.
• Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures for data extraction and transformation from various sources and perform CRUD operations on Big Data.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies and performance issues in BI solutions.
• Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes and data engineering methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Review and attest the solutions implementation as per approved architecture / guidelines.
• Design and represent solution architecture / Integration Pattern at various Architecture Forums for approval.
• Collaborate with technical and strategic CoEs, governance, enablement and operations teams.
• Enforce and follow security standards as per organization security directives on the solutions.
• Develop and maintain training materials and documentation for BI processes, data models, and reporting solutions.
• Automate and optimize processes using Python scripting/RPA tools.
MUST HAVES
• 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics
• Strong proficiency in Power BI, including advanced DAX, Power Query, and data modeling
• Solid understanding of data visualization principles and best practices
• Working knowledge or experience in Power Platform, Power Automate, Report Builder/SSRS
• Strong SQL skills, with experience in writing complex queries, stored procedures and CRUD operations.
• Experience with ETL processes, data ingestion and integration
• Hands-on experience with data warehousing concepts, best practices and tools (such as Snowflake)
• Ability to leverage Gen AI solutions (Microsoft and GitHub Copilot/Claude/GPT) to actively add product value, efficiency and minimize time to market.
• Proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Fundamental knowledge of programming language and libraries - [Python, numpy, pandas] (required) and [snowpark, seaborn, plotly/matplotlib] (good to have) for data analysis and manipulation
• Preferred certifications: Power BI/Power Platform/Snowflake
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Fundamental knowledge of DevOps and version control systems (e.g., Git/BitBucket/Azure DevOps/CDD/Jenkins/SonarQube) and collaborative development practices
• Knowledge of additional BI tools (e.g., Tableau, QuickSight) is a plus
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and their BI-related services (Good to have)
• Familiarity with working in Agile environment (Kanban/Scrum)
• Experience working in Asset Management / Finance / BFSI domain (preferred)
