AVP of Data Governance

The AVP of Data Governance leads the strategy, development, and execution of the firm’s enterprise data governance function. This role is responsible for establishing policies, frameworks, and standards to ensure that data across the organization is accurate, secure, compliant, and consistently defined. Reporting to the VP of Data & Analytics, the AVP sets the vision for governance, defines the operating model, and partners with business and technology stakeholders to embed governance into daily operations. This leader is accountable for advancing a governance-first culture and ensuring alignment with regulatory and risk requirements.

· Define and lead the firm’s enterprise data governance strategy, frameworks, and operating model.

· Establish and oversee data policies, ownership structures, and stewardship responsibilities.

· Implement data quality standards, monitoring processes, and issue management protocols.

· Maintain and evolve enterprise data catalogs, lineage, and business glossaries.

· Ensure ongoing compliance with data-related regulatory and privacy obligations (e.g., SEC, FINRA, GDPR).

· Drive adoption of governance practices across business units and technical teams.

· Collaborate with security, compliance, and legal teams to align governance with broader risk frameworks.

· Support master data and reference data initiatives with governance oversight.

· Train and enable stakeholders to improve data literacy and accountability.

Monitor and report on governance effectiveness, maturity, and business impact.

Experience:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or information management roles
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management capacity
• Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in financial services
• Experience establishing governance frameworks in medium to large organizations
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and policy development skills
