The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools invites applications for a continuing, full-time (40 hrs/wk) Journeyperson Electrician position at the Education Centre located in Airdrie, Alberta.
The Journeyperson Electrician repairs, services and maintains all electrical systems and shall abide by the "Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act". The successful candidate will require a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License.
Responsibilities:- Maintains knowledge of all materials relating to the electrical trade and seeks out information on new materials that may be appropriate for use in school buildings
- Inspects malfunctioning electrical equipment and determines necessary repairs, adjusting equipment to ensure maximum efficiency
- Installs new electrical to additions or renovation projects
- Procures materials in a cost-effective manner
- Provides input on new construction/renovation plans as requested
- Safely climbs ladder, scaffolds, operates man lifts and handles
- Provides training for electrical apprentices
- Demonstrates and models a genuine appreciation for, and understanding of, protocol, discretion, and professionalism in RVS
- Embraces and models the use of contemporary and emerging technologies within RVS
- Engages in professional development on an ongoing basis
- Journeyman Electrician Certification
- Three or more years journeyman electrician experience is preferred
- Experience working with HVAC systems
- Experience in computerized mechanical control systems, security systems, fire alarm systems and entry systems
- Willingness to attend upgrading courses to further field knowledge
- Confined space certified
- Proficiency with computers

Work Environment:
- Work will involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes and unpleasant odors.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- The successful candidate must submit a current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of the start of your employment
- Proof of qualifications/education as required by the position
- Valid Alberta Motor Vehicle License - Class 5 as travel will be required to various work sites on an ongoing basis
