Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Secretary-Director of Administrative Services is responsible for secretarial duties, as set out in the Municipalities Act, 2001, supervising the Administration Department, including the provision of secretarial services to the Council, and supervising the Provincial Offences Office.

The Secretary-Director of Administrative Services is responsible for accessing, protecting and managing the Corporation's information. He or she is also responsible for conducting legislative and legal analyses for the Chief Executive Officer and for the various departments with regard to the Corporation's obligations under the various applicable laws.

Requested skills

  • Hold an undergraduate university degree or any other combination of training and experience deemed equivalent. A graduate degree in law or administration is considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid licence under the Law Society of Ontario would be an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of municipal government administration, including the Municipal Act, 2001, the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and other relevant legislation, standards and regulations as necessary to deal with CUPR matters.
  • Good computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in a position of responsibility within the municipal government.
  • Thorough knowledge of local government functions and meeting procedures.
  • Excellent research, composition and minute-taking skills, file management, communication, problem solving, teamwork promotion and administration skills.
  • Good knowledge of business management, business planning and administration acquired through experience in municipal government and other sources.
  • Organisational skills to prioritize projects and complete them without supervision and within appropriate time frames.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages to prepare reports and policies for submission to the Chief Executive Officer for approval.
  • Good analytical skills to initiate and implement programs, identify and resolve problems, and formulate related policies and procedures.
  • Possession of a certificate from the Association of Municipal Secretaries and Treasurers of Ontario (AMSTO) municipal administration program, or equivalent, as well as proof of obtaining the CMM and/or CMO designation or pursuing studies to that end, is considered an asset.
