The Director of Care (DOC) is responsible for the planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of all nursing and personal care services. In accordance with the legislative requirements of the Long-Term Care Act, 2021 (LTCA) and Ontario Regulation 246/22, the DOC fosters a culture of excellence, compassion, safety, and continuous quality improvement.

This role requires a visionary clinical leader with extensive experience across multiple sectors of healthcare, strong financial knowledge, a commitment to best practices in infection prevention and control, and a demonstrated ability to inspire and engage a high-performing care team. The ideal candidate builds authentic, trusting relationships with staff, residents, and families.

The incumbent is also responsible for performing all other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the service and department.

Requested skills

  • University degree in nursing (RN or NP) and acquired knowledge related to management, such as human resources, business administration, industrial relations.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in nursing management and minimum of one year in a long-term care facility.
  • Good knowledge of gerontology and nursing would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in French and English.
  • Good knowledge of the Long-Term Care Recovery Act, 2021, S.O. 2021, c. 39, Schedule 1 and O. Reg. 246/22: GENERAL PROVISIONS.
  • Knowledge of the basics of the following laws: Workers' Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Act.
  • In-depth knowledge of interpreting and administering a multitude of regulations, laws, contractual agreements, policies and directives, and collective agreements.
  • Good computer skills, including MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with human resources, accounting and work schedule planning software.
