Job Description:
Parsons is seeking an experienced Architectural Director - Transit Facilities to lead and grow our national architectural practice within the Rail and Transit sector across Canada. In this senior leadership role, you will provide strategic direction, technical leadership, project oversight, and business development support for major transit facility projects, including stations, depots, maintenance facilities, bus terminals, and multimodal transportation hubs. This role is available at our Greater Toronto Area, Burnaby or Calgary offices!
You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across Canada to deliver high-quality architectural solutions, strengthen client relationships, support major pursuits, and mentor staff. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in transit architecture, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proven ability to lead complex projects and teams in a national practice environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead Parsons’ transit architecture practice across Canada establishing strategic direction, technical excellence, and consistent delivery standards nationwide
- Provide oversight and technical direction for major transit facility projects including subway and LRT stations, multimodal hubs, maintenance and storage facilities, operations buildings, bus terminals and depots, and airport-related transit facilities.
- Manage client relationships and support strategic business growth. Build and maintain strong relationships with transit agencies, public-sector clients, contractors, and key stakeholders across Canada. Serve as a senior point of contact and trusted advisor for architectural and facility-related matters.
- Business Development: Support the growth of Parsons’ transit architecture business through client development, market positioning, capture planning, proposal leadership, interviews, and strategic pursuits.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across all project phases
- Ensure design quality, code compliance, and technical excellence
- Mentor and develop staff across the national practice. Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional growth within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Support resource planning, project delivery, and operational performance. Monitor project progress and help resolve technical, schedule, and delivery challenges.
- Advance best practices in transit architecture, digital design, sustainability, resilience, CPTED, passenger experience, universal accessibility, and integrated project delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
- Registered Architect in Canada, or eligible for registration registration in one or more Canadian provinces.
- 20+ years of relevant experience, including leadership of major infrastructure or transit projects
- Strong experience in stations, depots, operations buildings, terminals, or similar complex public facilities
- Demonstrated success in project delivery, business development, and team leadership
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications, Google Suite and knowledge of current design software for use in architectural design assignments (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp).
- Ability to resolve technical issues, and manage internal budgets and staffing.
- Expert knowledge of codes, accessibility, life safety, sustainability, CPTED, and transit facility requirements
- Experience with Design-Build, P3, and other alternative delivery models
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
