Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis

The opportunity

The Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (“FP&A”) will be part of a management team responsible for building an outstanding financial planning and management reporting function, maturing multi-year enterprise planning processes and methodologies, and developing strategic partnerships with cross functional divisional leaders to assist them with business management and decision support.

Who you'll work with

You will support the Managing Director, MR&FP and will frequently interact with other Finance senior leadership, including the CFO. You will also collaborate with peers within FP&A and across Finance to develop insight and analysis and effectively manage end to end management reporting & planning processes.

What you'll do

Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Support the Managing Director to mature the financial planning and analysis function, including developing new insights, reporting and analysis.

  • Support change management of financial planning with particular focus on; planning process, governance, decision support , enabling technologies and performance measurement.

  • Manage execution of the financial forecast process, annual and 3-Year financial plan for assigned division(s) and support the overall delivery of an integrated enterprise planning process (inclusive of the Investment Plan, Workforce Plan, Corporate Administrative Expenses, Capital Expenditures, Strategic Initiatives & Project Portfolio, amongst other).

  • Prepare/contribute to board and executive management recurring and ad-hoc reporting and presentations and applicable material. Lead execution of internal stakeholder presentations, materials and applicable communications as related to results, forecast and budget and ad-hoc analysis.

  • Lead & manage preparation of base forecasts and annual/3-year plan for assigned division(s), support cost centre and department business partner assumption modelling and integration of top-down budgeting guidance with bottom-up cost centre rollup.

  • Closely monitor financial performance of assigned division(s), critically assess drivers of variances and financial implication of business activity changes / assumption revisions and their impact on forecast and annual budget.

  • Draw out “so what, now what” insight and provide recommendations for budget management and mitigation opportunities.

  • Create and manage financial models to support forecasting, budgeting and reporting to develop insights into cost structures to support prioritization decisions and strategic business decisions.

  • Support ongoing peer benchmarking and related analysis to help provide insights, develop top-down guidance and drive business outcomes based on performance / results relative to peers.

Management Reporting:

  • Manage month end financial analysis for assigned division(s), promoting driver-based variance analysis of actual vs. budget, prior periods, forecast, creating decision useful insight for cost centre managers and divisional/department leaders.

  • Review/support preparation of ongoing management reporting including KPIs, performance and other metrics, leveraging relevant data visualization techniques ( dashboards, graphical storytelling etc.) to help evaluate overall performance of key metrics (inclusive of divisional & departmental results and people and non-people cost allocations) and related insights vital for Executive Team members to operate the business effectively and efficiently.

  • Prepare/contribute to monthly and quarterly executive leadership reporting.

Expense/Business Management Partner:

  • Proactively seek to build partnerships and provide advisory role to divisional and department leaders by gaining business understanding and supporting strategy development through predictive analytics, what-if analysis and assessment of reporting requirements needs - inclusive of data source and methodology requirements to support strategic business insight and decision making.

  • Lead discussions and presentation of monthly/quarterly department and/or divisional financial results reviews with cost centre, department and division leaders.

  • Manage preparation of ongoing reporting and forecasting of expenditures against budget and related analysis/insights for assigned division(s)

  • Support senior management through reporting and analysis on operating expenses and investment related expenses.

  • Support maintenance and update of cost allocation framework and methodology.

  • Support divisions with benchmarking exercise and interpretation of results

  • Address / respond to stakeholder inquiries and requests on a timely and priority basis

  • Manage documentation of assigned processes and procedures and critical paths for deliverables.

  • Continuously monitor progress against deliverables, provide timely and realistic updates on status & issues, and effectively prioritize/re-allocate staffing to support timely completion of critical recurring & ad-hoc deliverables to stakeholders.

  • Support the development of quarterly and monthly business reviews .

  • Play a critical role in maturing the overall enterprise forecasting and budgeting process, including supporting change management within the team and functional and operating divisions, bringing in best practices for the forecasting and budgeting processes and effectively managing timelines and expectations.

  • Promote culture of cost consciousness, cost transparency and cost management.

  • Lead and develop a team of Managers to deliver exceptional client centric service to functional and operating divisional partners.

  • Manage direct reports performance, continuously seek to develop team through adequate training, providing cross-training & development opportunities and on-going coaching, career development, monitoring and support.

What you'll need
  • Professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).

  • Knowledge of accounting theory and good practical understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, financial planning, budgeting, and cost accounting including related methodology, techniques and procedures.

  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written and listening) and proven ability to organize and present complex information in a succinct, logical and insightful manner to both executive leaders, business stakeholders and internal finance team.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative ability, meticulous, focused on quality, accuracy, completeness and “so what, now what” insights.

  • 8+ years of progressive professional experience in Finance, with emphasis on financial planning, management reporting & analysis, and stakeholder relationship building.

  • Proven experience working in a customer centric environment and thriving in a dynamic high pace performance-based culture.

  • Exceptional prioritization, organizational and workload management skills for both independent and team deliverables.

  • Proven experience building management reporting and leveraging tools/visualization aids (PowerBI) and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (working with large data sets, modelling analysis & reporting), Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word (exposure to Microsoft Power Automate is an asset).

  • Experience working with Anaplan is an asset.

  • FP&A experience in an IT environment considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative ability

  • Proven abilities to critically assess effectiveness of processes, contribute recommendations for improvements/innovations and manage execution of solutions

  • Exceptional attention to detail, quality and stakeholder focused
