The Opportunity

Founded in 1990, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) is one of Canada’s largest institutional investors, with C$279.4 billion in net assets as of December 31, 2025. Teachers’ Venture Growth (TVG) is an investment department within OTPP focused on late-stage venture and growth equity investments in technology-enabled businesses.

TVG employs two complementary investment strategies - direct investing and investing through funds - to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns, access differentiated deal flow, and generate market insights. The TVG Funds portfolio consists of commitments to leading global venture and venture-growth managers, and continues to evolve as a core pillar of the broader TVG strategy.

As a Principal within TVG Funds team, you will play a key role in executing and managing TVG’s global funds strategy. You will contribute across the full lifecycle of fund investments, including origination, due diligence, execution, and ongoing portfolio management, while working closely with colleagues across TVG’s global offices.

Who you'll work with

You will work alongside a collaborative and high-performing global team of investment professionals across Toronto, San Francisco, London, and Mumbai.

This role will report to the Head of TVG Funds and partner closely with:

  • TVG Direct investment teams globally

  • Senior leadership across TVG

  • External fund managers (GPs), LP peers, and broader ecosystem participants

You will also work collaboratively across OTPP divisions to help drive enhanced sector and investment stage specialization and overall regional coordination. As a new department within Ontario Teachers', partnering with regional and asset class colleagues will be vital to success.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate new and follow-on fund investment opportunities across venture, venture-growth, and growth equity strategies

  • Lead and support due diligence processes, including GP assessment, track record analysis, and portfolio construction review

  • Conduct market mapping and manager research to inform investment decisions and sourcing efforts

  • Contribute to underwriting, structuring, and negotiation of fund commitments

  • Prepare and present investment materials for internal committees

  • Support ongoing monitoring of the global funds portfolio, including performance tracking, valuation, and risk management

  • Develop portfolio-level analytics and insights across returns, exposure, and strategic value (e.g., co-investment opportunities and sector insights)

  • Participate in LPACs, AGMs, and ongoing GP engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with global GPs, emerging managers, and LP peers

  • Represent OTPP at industry events and within the venture ecosystem

  • Partner with TVG Direct teams to identify and evaluate shared investment opportunities and share market insights

  • Contribute to broader TVG strategic initiatives and knowledge-sharing efforts

  • Mentor and support junior team members, including providing feedback and development opportunities

  • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other teams to ensure continued alignment with OTPP’s mission, vision and values. This includes supporting and sharing knowledge with other areas of Investments and responding to ad hoc requests from other departments

What you'll need

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in venture capital, growth equity, fund investing, or related fields (e.g., investment banking or consulting with private markets exposure)

  • Experience evaluating or working with investment funds, including understanding of fund structures, economics, and portfolio construction

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear investment insights

  • Demonstrated ability to assess investment managers, strategies, and market positioning

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills across global stakeholders

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high degree of ownership, curiosity, and accountability

  • Global perspective and strong interest in technology-driven sectors

  • Experience working across geographies and with cross-functional teams is an asset

  • Exposure to fund-of-funds, secondaries, or LP investing is an asset

  • CFA, MBA, or other relevant advanced degree is an asset

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
