Manager, Benefits & Wellbeing

The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Global benefits and retirement manager who exhibits a passion for the development and execution of organizational wellness programs, which include our benefits, retirement and wellbeing offerings to provide a holistic employee experience. As a priority of Ontario Teachers’ strategy, this role will have a direct opportunity to contribute to the culture of wellbeing and impact on equity through development and implementation, governance, branding and communications of a Global wellbeing program by leveraging global experience in benefits, wellness, and retirement.

Who you'll work with

As a member of our award-winning People & Culture team, reporting to the Director, Benefits & Wellbeing, you will assess, build and implement high quality, holistic health wellness and retirement programs that are aligned with our Wellbeing purpose, goals, and priorities. You will leverage partnerships externally to bring insights and help manage programs to support over 1,500 employees in Canada and internationally.

What you'll do
  • Provides input into the direction of Wellbeing programs for Teachers’.

  • Recommend, lead and execute the implementation of wellbeing programs, in alignment with the Wellbeing Strategy

  • Support the Wellbeing strategy and employee experience as we transition to a new location on Front Street in downtown Toronto

  • Support planning efforts which includes third-party benchmarking and tapping into global external trends/insights to identify gaps and support recommendations.

  • Manage all aspects of an employee-focused wellness initiatives including program recommendation and design, employee communications and program administration.

  • Handle health, life, retirement, and time off programs and policies for across 6+ countries including contract renewals, administration, relationships.

  • Coach/guide junior team members across the broader Global Total Rewards team.

  • Develops and coordinate communications and marketing efforts associated with all aspects of programming including website, print and social media.

  • Manage relevant external providers (benchmarking, benefit design consultants, etc.)

  • Contribute to continuous cost and productivity analyses, improvement opportunities, and efficiencies of wellbeing program initiatives.

What you'll need
  • University degree, preferably in health sciences or related field

  • 5-7 years of benefit and retirement experience in Canada and/or globally; additional experience across Total Rewards considered an asset.

  • CEBS designation or completion of Benefits (GBA) or Retirement (RPA) courses; HRPA or similar courses

  • Technical knowledge of benefit and retirement practices, processes, and policies

  • Current and evolving knowledge of Wellbeing approaches, trends, issues, and market leading practices in workplace health promotion and health care & retirement programs including the design, development and direction of related programs and services

  • Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation and policies

  • Strong business acumen including an understanding of business strategies, competitive challenges, and the financial impact of HR decisions

  • Innovative thinking and decision-making skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused/employee-focused mind-set are crucial

  • Solutions focused with a simple and practical approach

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to address individual perspectives of those you are advising

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong collaborative relationships.

  • Comfortable presenting, articulating strategy and points of view from both in front and behind the scenes.

  • Strong project management and change management approach

  • Commitment to working with issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
