Do you have solid economic knowledge, strong analytical and communication skills and a keen interest in learning from experienced professionals? If so, this is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Portfolio Strategy team at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.
As an Investment Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the team's activities and initiatives, such as conducting portfolio analysis, developing macro-driven tools and frameworks, preparing reports and presentations, and participating in cross-functional projects. You will also learn from and collaborate with senior leaders and experts across the organization.
Who you’ll work with
Total Fund Management (TFM) is comprised of individuals with strong academic backgrounds (e.g., MA, MSc, MBA, PhD), professional designations (e.g., CFA, FSA, PRM) and practical experience.
TFM’s mandate includes formulating the Fund’s detailed asset mix over a three- to five-year time horizon, establishing asset mix weights, and working with other Investments divisions to allocate risk budgets.
The Portfolio Strategy team resides within the TFM and is tasked with providing thought-leadership within Teachers’ on global economic, policy, financial markets and geopolitics that informs key decision-makers within the organization on major themes and risks.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Economist.
What you’ll do
Your knowledge of economics and financial markets, as well as your strong quantitative techniques will be key in:
Conducting research in global macroeconomic and financial markets developments
Preparing presentations that support total fund investment strategy initiatives and recommendations
Building and managing analytical and econometric models
Maintaining, and contributing to, the extensive library of financial and economic data and charts
What you’ll need
The ideal candidate is expected to have a solid grounding in macroeconomic, econometric and monetary/international economic principles.
The candidate is expected to have strong quantitative and programming skills (e.g., knowledge of MS Visual Basic, Python, Eviews)
Must have intermediate to advance proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Has good communications skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment
The successful candidate will have at least one year experience and recently completed a quantitative finance or economics graduate degree (e.g., MFE, MMF, MA (economics), MFin). A CFA designation will be an asset
You will be using your analytical skills and creativity to provide support in researching new asset classes and developing innovative solutions that enhance the fund’s risk-reward trade-off
Your quantitative and programming skills will also be key asset in developing models that assist in the total fund investment decision making process
