We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. It is our responsibility to deliver this transformative technology for the greater good of society.

Located at the heart of the beautiful Eastern Townships region in the province of Quebec, Canada, we develop our technology in the vibrant quantum ecosystem of Sherbrooke. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology.

Salary: $167000$ – $194000$

Vacation: 5 weeks per year

Benefits: Group insurance (including dental care), virtual care, lifestyle spending account (all available after 3 months of service)

Our current needs

As Nord Quantique scales its quantum processor development activities, the EM Design team requires robust, reproducible, and scalable simulation infrastructure to support faster design cycles, stronger loss-budget rigor, and more efficient use of computational resources.

We are seeking a Team Lead, EM Design Tools and Infrastructure to define and drive the technical direction of internal electromagnetic simulation infrastructure. This role combines technical leadership, hands-on scientific software development, computational EM expertise, and cross-functional coordination.

The selected candidate will lead the development of internal modeling tools, automation workflows, solver strategies, validation practices, and reproducible simulation pipelines used across the EM Design team.

Team mission

Enable fast, scalable, and cost-efficient EM simulation across the EM Design team by developing and maintaining robust modeling tools, automation workflows, and solver strategies that support roadmap-driven design and loss-budget rigor.

Working in close collaboration with experts at Nord Quantique, the chosen candidate will:

  • Own the EM simulation infrastructure roadmap and long-term solver strategy across the EM Design team.
  • Lead internal tool development for model generation, simulation automation, solver orchestration, data extraction, and post-processing.
  • Set software engineering standards for architecture, testing, documentation, releases, code review, and maintainability.
  • Ensure simulation workflows are robust through reproducibility, traceability, versioning, validation, and design-documentation alignment.
  • Drive solver benchmarking and scalability planning, including accuracy, convergence, licensing, HPC usage, queue times, and compute cost.
  • Manage and anticipate scaling constraints related to licensing, HPC usage, and computational cost
  • Mentor contributors and provide hands-on technical leadership in computational EM, scientific software, automation, architecture, and code reviews.

The selected candidate will operate within a highly dynamic environment and will be an essential technical leader for the EM Design team, directly enabling scalable design workflows and stronger simulation discipline at the physical core of Nord Quantique's technology.

Education and experience requirements*

  • PhD, Master's degree, or equivalent industry experience in physics, electrical engineering, computational electromagnetics, scientific computing, software engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in computational EM, scientific software development, RF/microwave simulation, superconducting circuits, cQED, or quantum hardware design.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical projects, internal tool development, simulation infrastructure, or scientific software initiatives.
  • Strong programming experience, preferably in Python, with a proven ability to develop maintainable, scalable, and well-documented engineering software.
  • Experience with EM simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, COMSOL, PALACE, Sonnet, CST, or similar.
  • Experience mentoring technical contributors, coordinating roadmaps, and aligning stakeholders around shared engineering priorities.

*Any combination of relevant training and experience will be considered.

Sought expertise and knowledge

  • Strong background in computational electromagnetics, microwave engineering, finite-element modeling, planar EM simulation, or superconducting quantum device design.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, API design, modular code development, testing strategies, documentation practices, and long-term codebase governance.
  • Experience designing automation frameworks for parametric modeling, simulation execution, data extraction, post-processing, and reporting.
  • Ability to evaluate numerical accuracy, convergence behavior, solver limitations, mesh sensitivity, and validation requirements.
  • Experience with HPC environments, solver scaling, workload orchestration, parallel computing, or compute-resource optimization.
  • Strong systems-level thinking regarding reproducibility, traceability, model versioning, and simulation data management.
  • Familiarity with superconducting quantum processors, cQED, microwave loss mechanisms, resonator design, or quantum hardware architectures is a strong asset.
  • Intermediate knowledge of French, an asset.

Sought profile

  • Senior technical contributor with strong leadership instincts and the ability to balance strategy with hands-on implementation.
  • Comfortable defining a technical roadmap while also contributing directly to code, architecture, and validation work.
  • Pragmatic and solution-oriented with a strong ability to prioritize high-impact work in a fast-moving R&D environment.
  • Able to bridge physics, computational EM, software engineering, and hardware-design constraints across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communicator capable of aligning technical contributors around shared workflows and standards.
  • Committed to building reliable tools that improve team velocity, simulation quality, and design traceability.
  • Able to mentor contributors, raise engineering standards, and foster a culture of reproducibility, maintainability, and technical excellence.
