Our current needs

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a new leader with a strong track record of experimental work in quantum computing with superconducting circuits. While technical expertise remains important, we are especially looking for someone who thrives by supporting others and championing a vision – someone who can create an environment where experimental hardware physicists are empowered and motivated to contribute to Nord Quantique’s hardware research and development.

The Quantum Hardware Department operates as the end user at the heart of Nord Quantique, responsible for delivering improved quantum processor performance integrated into larger systems. The mission of the Quantum Control & Calibration team is to develop and refine high-fidelity control primitives and calibration strategies that minimize error rates and enable next-generation logical performance.

More specifically, this individual will start, grow, and lead this team of quantum hardware physicists to deliver quantum processor performance improvements propelling Nord Quantique along our ambitious technical R&D roadmap. They will lead roadmap thrusts to push our hardware capabilities and continuously deepen our understanding of the science behind it. The person will develop new methods and hardware through a strong interaction with our theory, design and experimental teams.

We support learning and growth within the role and value leadership experience from a range of backgrounds. Success in this role depends not only on technical guidance, but on building trust, fostering open communication, and sustaining a shared sense of purpose within the team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the day-to-day work of Quantum Control & Calibration Team
  • Define, lead, and manage experimental campaigns to deliver roadmap thrusts
  • Support the team’s growth through mentoring, recruitment, and skill development
  • Own primitive gate schemes and calibration standards to improve performance
  • Digest scientific data and feedback to the EM Design and Quantum Theory teams
  • Represent Nord Quantique externally at scientific conferences

Education and experience requirements:

  • PhD in experimental physics – quantum computing, superconducting circuits or related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in quantum computing or superconducting circuit research
  • Experience leading or coordinating experimental efforts in academic or industrial setting
  • Strong background in interdisciplinary collaboration and research-to-development transfer

We recognize that expertise can come from a variety of academic or professional paths—not all of which follow conventional trajectories—and we value diversity in that regard.

Sought expertise and knowledge:

  • Led and delivered experimental campaigns
  • Circuit QED
  • Practical understanding of quantum error correction
  • Team management, priority setting and efficient project execution
  • Bosonic codes, an asset
  • Familiarity with designing superconducting circuits, an asset
  • Quantum gate calibration and benchmarking, an asset
  • Advanced level in English, to communicate with international team members
  • Intermediate knowledge of French, an asset

Sought profile:

  • Ability to build, mentor, and lead a collaborative research team
  • Leadership grounded in empathy and respect for individual growth
  • Strong technical vision grounded in scientific rigor
  • Clear and inclusive communication across diverse technical teams
  • Comfort managing multiple projects and aligning execution with evolving priorities
  • Commitment to advancing quantum computing and building meaningful technology

Nord Quantique is committed to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in its training, workplaces, and activities. We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and traditionally marginalized groups.
