About Nord Quantique
At Nord Quantique, we strive to build impactful technology by relentlessly pushing our understanding of quantum science. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. We believe it is our responsibility to deliver this transformative technology for the greater good of society.
Located at the heart of the beautiful Eastern Townships region in the province of Quebec, Canada, we develop our technology in the vibrant quantum ecosystem of Sherbrooke. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology.
Our current needs
We are seeking a Quantum Applications Scientist to join our growing Applications team. In this role, you will drive the development of near-term quantum applications tailored to our bosonic hardware platform. You will engage with industrial and academic partners to identify high-value use cases, benchmark them via simulation and hardware execution, and help define how our technology delivers practical utility.
Your work will span from quantum algorithm design to compilation, optimization, and simulation, in close collaboration with both internal experimental teams and external stakeholders. You will contribute to developing new hybrid continuous-variable/discrete-variable (CV-DV) quantum algorithms that match our platform’s unique strengths.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to and lead internal projects focused on quantum applications for domains such as chemistry, materials science optimization and other.
- Develop and adapt algorithms for our bosonic qubit platform, including hybrid CV-DV methods.
- • Compile high-level quantum circuits down to pulse-level representations and contribute to running experiments on hardware in close collaboration with the experimental team.
- Simulate quantum circuits under realistic noise models using internal tools for performance/resource estimation.
- Collaborate with external partners to co-design use cases and benchmark them across classical and quantum platforms.
- Contribute to internal tooling for simulation, algorithm analysis, and performance benchmarking.
Sought expertise :
- MSc in physics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Expertise in Quantum Algorithms and NISQ Devices: Demonstrated proficiency in exploring near-term applications on noisy quantum processors (NISQ algorithms) is a significant asset, as this constitutes the primary focus of the open position.
Or
- Experience in Bosonic Systems: Prior experience in working with bosonic systems and bosonic codes, or more generally with continuous variable quantum computing. This provides a deeper understanding of the capabilities and limitations of our quantum processors.
Preferred expertise :
Experience in one or more of the following areas will be considered an asset:
- Practical near-term implementations of quantum error correction, quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computation, bosonic quantum error-correcting codes
- Applying quantum computing to fields like quantum chemistry, material science, and optimization problems.
- High-performance computation.
- Working with experimental teams.
- Familiarity with coding best practices to support research and development tools.
- Hybrid continuous-variable/discrete-variable (CV-DV) quantum algorithms.
- Variational algorithms and quantum/classical optimization techniques.
- Analog-style quantum applications (e.g., near-analog simulations, Hamiltonian engineering).
- Quantum simulation and benchmarking, especially in noisy environments.
- Quantum compilation, including gate synthesis, scheduling, and pulse-level optimization.
Sought profile
- Adaptability: The candidate should be able to adapt to rapidly changing environments, as the goals and priorities in the context of a deep tech startup are dynamic and evolving.
- Team-Oriented Mindset: Collaboration is key in scientific and quantum computing research, so a team-oriented mindset is highly valued.
- Thorough and Systematic: Attention to detail, thoroughness, and a systematic approach to problem-solving are crucial in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the results and conclusions.
- Prioritization and Coordination: The ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate actions is essential, especially when working on complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Organizational and Communication Skills: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Effective written and verbal communication skills in English for collaboration and conveying findings.
Nord Quantique is committed to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in its training, workplaces, and activities. We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and traditionally marginalized groups.
