Our Current Needs
We are scaling our activities alongside our quantum processors. In this effort, we want to expand our nanofabrication team by recruiting an exceptional individual with a strong R&D nanofabrication record. This person will play a key role in the Nanofabrication R&D team by working to improve the yield, performance, and reproducibility of superconducting devices. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in key strategic areas related to the nanofabrication of superconducting devices such as e-beam lithography, reactive ion etching, and metal deposition (sputtering & evaporation). The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage time and priorities, and a collaborative mindset to drive projects to successful completion.
Keys responsibilities:
- Work in the cleanroom to fabricate and deliver mission-critical devices, such as transmon qubits and tripole resonators, to the hardware team for measurement.
- Develop, benchmark and optimize nanofabrication processes for superconducting devices, focusing on performance and yield.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing resources to ensure timely and successful outcomes.
- Follow cleanroom protocols precisely while documenting fabrication processes, parameters, and outcomes in a clear and organized manner.
- Generate detailed technical reports to support knowledge sharing and team decisionmaking.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Information, or a related field
- Postdoctoral or industry experience in nanofabrication and materials metrology (an asset).
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience developing and optimizing cleanroom processes in micro and nanofabrication facilities
- Proven experience delivering devices within a small team in an academic or industrial setting
- Extensive experience in understanding and solving nanofabrication problems
Core Expertise:
- Strong foundation in nanofabrication process development and optimization
- Experienced with most of the following cleanroom techniques with deep mastery in at least one area: Lithography (e-beam or photolithography), metal deposition (e.g. evaporation, sputter), etching (ICP, RIE), wet chemistry processing (acids and bases).
- Familiar using some of the following in-line characterization techniques: TEM, FIB, SEM, AFM, XRD, SIMS, XPS, profilometry, confocal microscopy, ellipsometry and room temperature electrical measurements.
- Advanced level in English, to communicate with international team members
Preferred Skills:
The following skills are not a hard requirement for the role but would be considered an asset:
- Understanding of device physics and workflow for superconducting circuits
- Knowledge of Josephson junctions and/or superconducting qubit fabrication
- Experience working with superconducting or ESD-sensitive circuits
- Knowledge of MES systems and/or best practices for sample tracking
- Basic coding skills (Python)
- Knowledge of circuit design software such as KLayout and BEAMER
- Intermediate knowledge of French
Sought Profile:
- Proactive approach to problem solving
- Great sense of autonomy and dependability
- Highly organized, meticulous, and efficient, with a process-oriented mindset
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver results in a rapidly changing environment
- Strong critical thinking with a proven ability to solve complex problems
- Desire to share and advance knowledge and methods amongst the team
- Proficient in producing clear and concise technical reports
