Description
Workplace Type: Onsite
Newmont produces metals the world needs - safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.
Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. As a fly-in, fly-out operation, Red Chris is reached via charter flights from multiple locations in BC and Alberta, with teams working on a rotational schedule. Currently an active open-pit producer, Red Chris is poised for an exciting transformation - we are developing a high-value underground block cave that will extend the mine’s life for decades and unlock even more resources. The remote location fosters a close-knit “camp” community where safety and teamwork come first. Working at Red Chris offers an adventurous career at the frontier of mining innovation, with the opportunity to shape a major expansion while enjoying the natural beauty of northern Canada. Our team values strong partnerships with local First Nations and is committed to operating in a safe, inclusive and environmentally responsible way.
Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.
Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving-an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.
Newmont is committed to working in partnership with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.

- Identify and mitigate geological and geotechnical risks while proactively managing opportunities to improve project and operational performance.
- Collaborate with mine engineering, project teams, operations, consultants, and external stakeholders to achieve project outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, company, and industry requirements related to geology, geotechnical engineering, and ground control.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance technical performance, risk management, and operational effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of safety, inclusion, accountability, and high performance.
- Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in underground mining, caving and large-scale mining project environments.
- Demonstrated experience in geotechnical engineering, geological modelling, ground control, or related technical disciplines supporting underground mining operations.
- Proven leadership experience within complex underground mining projects or operations.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams responsible for geotechnical, geological, mine planning, or technical services functions.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical risk management, geological interpretation, monitoring programs, technical governance, and operational performance.
