Disability Specialist

The CAF LTD and SISIP Life team is seeking a collaborative, customer focused leader to join us as a Disability Specialist - CAF LTD. Reporting to the Associate Manager, you will support effective disability management practices and help guide the team’s daily operations.

Our team works closely with Canadian Armed Forces veterans who have been medically released, many of whom have complex medical needs. We are dedicated to helping them navigate their transition to civilian life, including potential return to work opportunities.

In this role, you will support Case Managers across Canada by providing technical expertise, workflow coordination, and coaching to ensure excellent customer service and timely, fair claim resolution. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of those who have served our country.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support case managers with the tools/resources/training to achieve solution focused outcomes

  • Promote proactive Case Management: consistent and appropriate use and completion of the action plan (both initial and subsequent) with clear identification and communication of next expected action date and expected outcomes

  • Look for opportunities to assist with return to work with consistent application of disability best practices

  • Escalations - Respond/Review/Action escalations

  • Looking for opportunities to remove barriers and impact outcomes

  • Creatively collaborate with other departments

  • Ongoing development with new hires

  • Review Audit scores to identify trends

  • Review Appeals

  • Provide training to new hires


Required Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of Group Disability adjudication, insurance products and case management practices

  • Experience in technical training and development of staff

  • Completion of post-secondary education in health sciences field helpful

  • Exceptionally strong leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, results oriented, multiple team environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Results oriented with strong decision-making ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

  • Knowledge of CAF LTD specific claims management would be considered and asset

  • Knowledgeable in medical terminology, treatment and/or physical/mental functional ability assessment

  • Completion of post-secondary education in health sciences field

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively, in a fast-paced, results oriented, multiple team environment

  • Superior analytical and decision-making ability

  • Flexibility to handle multiple priorities

  • PC skills including MS Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Completion of some related insurance industry courses would be an asset

  • Previous Group Disability Claims experience an asset

Salary range is expected to be between

$56,175.00 CAD - $93,625.00 CAD
