Director of Engineering – Retirement Digital Platforms

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the delivery and evolution of our US Retirement digital platforms. In this role, you will lead and grow high-performing engineering teams responsible for building secure, scalable, and customer-centric solutions that help millions of customers plan for their financial future.

You will play a key leadership role in shaping engineering strategy, driving platform reliability and security, and advancing modernization through cloud and AI-enabled technologies. Position Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and lead the engineering strategy, roadmap, and technical direction for retirement digital platforms

  • Partner with product, architecture, and business leaders to deliver high-impact customer outcomes

  • Contribute to broader organizational strategy and cross-functional initiatives

Delivery & Execution

  • Lead teams to design, build, and operate scalable web applications and supporting services

  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including CI/CD, DevOps, and automation

  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, customer-focused solutions

Platform, Security & Reliability

  • Champion secure coding practices and lead vulnerability remediation efforts

  • Strengthen platform resilience, performance, and availability across digital systems

  • Partner with security and risk teams to ensure compliance and continuous improvement

People Leadership & Culture

  • Build, develop, and mentor high-performing engineering teams across multiple workstreams

  • Foster an inclusive culture of accountability, continuous learning, and psychological safety

  • Support career growth through coaching, feedback, and development opportunities

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-enabled development tools

  • Continuously improve engineering processes, quality, and developer experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience leading engineering teams delivering cloud-based applications at scale

  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices and system design

  • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver business outcomes

  • Knowledge of secure development practices, application performance, and reliability

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React)

  • Familiarity with backend and API-based architectures

  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure

  • Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools

  • Interest in or experience with AI-enabled development tools

If you are applying to this role in US, please note the salary range is $127,330 to $236,470 USD. Additionally, employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.

Salary range is expected to be between

$113,260.00 CAD - $210,340.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
