The Sr. Technician, Laser Process is a hands-on technical position in our engineering team, supporting new product development and effective R&D execution for all facets of Magna’s laser process technology. This role will participate in all the technical execution aspects of laser process development, testing including prototype development, qualification and trouble-shooting. Main fields of research include laser cutting, welding, etching, cleaning, surface modification & heat treatment.
- Supports technical product and process development as tasked by management
- Provides feedback and assists management in technical decisions and problem solving
- Responsible for setup & testing associated with laser application development projects
- Responsible for laser validation testing using with variety of laser types or modules
- Maintain a safe operating environment and follow all Corporate Policies and Procedures
- Completes DOE’s, develops and documents manufacturing processes, including PMFEA analysis
- Preferred, Engineering degree with focus in Laser Science & Optics
- Familiarity with laser safety procedures
- Familiarity with robot programming
- Familiarity with machine shop tools and millwork
- At least 5 years of experience using laser technology
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with laser test/lab equipment, including support equipment such as chillers, power supplies, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal acquisition equipment, multi meter, etc.
- Experience with electrical circuits/soldering
- Previous experience working effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to program robots
- Ability use CAD (Solid works, Space claim, or CATIA) to support project work
- Demonstrated flexibility - ability to change task or plan quickly
- Can demonstrate LASER technology and can train laser operators

- Demonstrated problem-solving and analysis skills
- Ability to communicate and understand highly technical verbal and written communications
- Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Local and/or international travel may be required.
