The Millwright Apprentice is responsible for assisting experienced millwrights in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. This role involves learning and developing skills in troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring the efficient operation of all machinery. The Millwright Apprentice works under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor and experienced millwrights to gain hands-on experience and technical knowledge in the field.
- Complete Apprenticeship Training Standard Book, provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
- Must be able to perform the following duties under the direction/ guidance of a qualified Millwright: Support in the diagnosis and remedy of any mechanical trouble in the plant
- Perform preventative maintenance (PM) schedules as required Work with Electricians, Maintenance Mechanics / Millwrights in a trouble-shooting capacity
- Complete all check sheets and records as relates to the mechanical function Assist with modifying machinery and equipment and overhaul machines as directed
- Prepares and distributes machine reports and downtime reports Suggest preventative measures to minimize or eliminate breakdowns
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of equipment Assists with mechanical installations of new equipment, and re-siting of equipment Must be aware of relevance and importance of their activities and how it affects quality and the environment for our customers
- Monitor tool cleanliness and ensure tool cleaning is conducted as required.
- Preventative maintenance program for all processing equipment is performed on established timelines
- Promote and comply with safety standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices and the observance of protective equipment requirements at all times.
- Any other reasonable duty required by Management.
- Perform any other reasonable duty as required or assigned by Management.
- Ensure compliance and enforcement of Customer Specific Requirements, QMS (IATF16949), Health and Safety (ISO 45001), EMS (ISO14001), and security (PIP) required
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of Secondary School Diploma
- 1 to 3 years of millwright experience an asset, preferably in an automotive manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics and production machines an asset
- Background in either stamping or automated assembly processes an asset
- Practical knowledge and experience in preventative maintenance procedures and exposure to industrial controls
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude
- Capacity to organize work and prioritize with a strong sense of urgency
- Effective time management skills to consistently meet deadlines
- Familiarity with Programming Logistics Control (PLC) desirable
- Approachable and dependable
- Goal and task oriented
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as a part of a team
