1.JOB OBJECTIVES

The Manager, Business Development & Alliance will serve as a primary liaison for new and existing licensing and new partners. This role involves identifying and securing new product opportunities, negotiating deal terms, and managing partnerships. The Manager will also analyze the competitive landscape, explore opportunities for proprietary products, collaborate with internal teams to advance product development, and oversee the project management of BD activities to ensure timely filing, approval, and launch of new products.

Reporting to the Head of Portfolio & Business Development, this role may require travel.

2. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Licensing/Partnering

  • Continuously identify and develop a list of potential new products to maintain a robust portfolio of products in development and filed with Health Canada.
  • Proactively seek product opportunities and assess territories of interest.
  • Build forecasts and liaise with other depts (eg. RA, R&D, Ops etc.) to build business cases and negotiate and advance discussions with preferred partners for products of interest.
  • Evaluate potential partners for alignment with BD strategy and in-licensing goals.
  • Draft and negotiate term sheets and CDAs.
  • Lead negotiations of license and supply agreements under the guidance of the Head of Portfolio & BD.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify and advance development projects of interest.

Alliance Management

  • Act as the main point of contact for business-related issues and contract term clarifications.
  • Support Regulatory Affairs, Quality, and Operations in:

Filing new products with Health Canada.

Releasing products into the market.

Addressing ongoing operational concerns.

  • Collaborate with partners to resolve issues related to regulatory documentation and contract development.
  • Champion new projects to ensure compliance with regulatory filing timelines.
  • Monitor BD cycle times and support initiatives to enhance regulatory cycle efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain communication schedules with partnerships to review business activities, identify new opportunities, and update partners on market dynamics (e.g., marketing plans, sales, competition).
  • Negotiate with partners to improve or modify terms when necessary.

3. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT AND APTITUDES

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry (BD/Sales/Product management/Portfolio).
  • Experience with API and CMO organizations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian market dynamics and partnership mechanisms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and French (an asset).
  • Proven expertise in project management.
  • Strong understanding of different types of commercial contracts is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to assess market opportunities and competitive landscapes.
  • Established network within the global industry is an asset.
  • Good understanding of product development, Canadian regulatory requirements, market access, and pharmaceutical intellectual property patents, is a plus.
  • Autonomous with strong problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Active listener, able to articulate ideas to build commitment and trust.
  • Self-starter who effectively utilizes various resources to achieve results.
  • Collaborative team player, respectful of all levels internally and externally, and able to work effectively with cross functional teams.
  • Proficient with IQVIA, MS Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and other internet
