Position Summary
Interior Health is seeking a permanent full-time Senior Consultant | Medical Staff Communications who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in healthcare.
In this dynamic and influential role, you will provide dedicated support to the Medicine portfolio and play a critical part in shaping strategic communications that engage, inform, and empower medical staff across Interior Health-including physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners, dentists, and other professionals.
Location: This position is flexible within the Interior Health Authority.

Salary range for the position is $88,990 to $127,923. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:
The Senior Consultant, Medical Staff Communications plays a key role in developing and implementing strategic communications to engage, inform and support physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners, dentists and other medical staff across Interior Health (IH). Reporting to the Manager, Internal Communications, this role ensures medical staff have the information, tools and context needed to deliver high-quality patient care and contribute to organizational goals.
This position is complex due to the inherently unique characteristics of medical staff culture and the various contractual and accountability relationships with IH and external partners. The Senior Consultant, Medical Staff Communications develops and nurtures relationships, actively monitors and mitigates risk, and provides recommendations for emergent and routine medical staff communications in this environment, ensuring timely, accurate internal and external-facing communications that foster positive engagement with facility and community-based medical staff.
Additionally, the Senior Consultant, Medical Staff Communications works collaboratively with other People & Engagement portfolio members, contributing expertise and skills as required in support of communication content and plans.
In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to your manager or supervisor immediately.
What will you work on:
• Acts as a strategic and trusted advisor to the Medicine portfolio and medical leaders, in addition to building strong relationships with internal partners, including Medicine, Clinical Operations and Quality & Professional Practice teams.
• Conducts appropriate supporting communication research and analysis related to medical staff communication needs/best practices.
• Develops, implements and evaluates current communication strategies to engage internal and external audiences to facilitate an open dialogue and understanding of important medical staff issues, challenges, opportunities and strategic directions.
• Writes and edits clear, compelling medical staff content for a variety of channels including newsletters, intranet, digital screens, and internal announcements.
• Supports communication needs for medical staff recruitment, retention, recognition, and wellness initiatives.
• Represents Internal Communications during organizational changes, service transitions, and urgent response situations.
• Guides the Medicine portfolio in evaluating the effectiveness of medical staff communications and engagement strategies.
• Seeks out opportunities to engage with relevant partners, to increase own knowledge and understanding of context, perspective, pressures; share learnings with both Medicine and People & Engagement portfolios; considers specific needs of identified audiences, including Indigenous Peoples, rural communities, patients/clients and their loved ones, partners, community leaders, and the general public.
• As a member of the People & Engagement portfolio, participates in the development or delivery of various communications-related resources made available to senior management, directors, employees and medical staff.
• Provides senior-level on-call (after hours) coverage according to People & Engagement portfolio schedule.
• Collaborates with other People & Engagement portfolio members, as required, to coordinate and execute assigned tasks, ensuring that service delivery is seamless for clients and deadlines are met.
• Seeks out opportunities to increase communications and engagement skills and awareness of best practices, industry standards, etc., and to share key learnings with portfolio members.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience
• A bachelor’s degree specializing in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, preferably in a large, complex organization.
• Previous experience in employee or corporate communications and knowledge of the health-care (or other public sector) operating environment are an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with demonstrated results in communications will also be considered.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative, high-performance team.
• Demonstrated understanding of communications, marketing and public or media relations best practices.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and proof-reading skills.
• Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic, operational, and issues management-related communication.
