This role offers a valuable entry point into a respected, long-standing civil construction company in the Lower Mainland. As a Junior Civil Estimator, the successful candidate will collaborate with experienced estimators while supporting a diverse portfolio of urban projects.
About Our Client
This family-run company has been working in the Lower Mainland for nearly 40 years and specializes in excavation, shoring, underground utilities, and road works within urban environments, working with cities, real estate developers, and local municipalities. They have 100 staff in total, including office and field-based employees and their office is based in downtown Vancouver.
About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Junior Civil Estimator to come in be able to learn off more experienced estimators. You will be working on 2-3 projects at any given time based within the Lower Mainland with projects ranging from $1M - $10M. The position is fully office-based and you will be reporting to the VP of Construction.
This opportunity is available to candidates based in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Coquitlam, Abbotsford, Delta, Richmond, and Langley/ (Lower Mainland).
About the Position
- Leads prequalification and proposal-based tendering opportunities.
- Organizes estimating teams for bid preparation, vendor/subcontractor selection, and cost analysis.
- Reviews tender documents, specifications, and drawings; attends pre-bid meetings to define project scope and estimating effort.
- Consults with clients, vendors, and stakeholders to discuss and develop cost estimates.
- Prepares material take-offs and calculates required quantities.
- Provides productivity analysis for different scopes of work during estimate preparation.
- Evaluates subcontractor and supplier proposals; prepares quote comparison sheets to assess best value.
- Maintains organized estimate backup files, including updated pricing from suppliers and trades.
- Leads estimate close-out and submission processes.
- Conducts post-bid analyses on submitted tenders.
- Supports awarded contracts by assisting with change orders, extra work items, or design revisions.
- Facilitates pre-construction handover meetings to align project delivery teams with scope and expectations.
The Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience with a civil contractor working on private and public infrastructure projects
- Proficient in using software such as Heavy Bid, Spectrum, MS Project, and MS Suite
- Willingness to grow and develop
- Local civil contracting experience to BC
- Civil BA an asset
Compensation
- $70,000 - $120,000 depending on experience
- Discretionary bonuses
- 2-3 weeks vacation
