About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Property Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day financial operations for a group of income-producing properties. Reporting to the Controller, this role is ideal for someone with a solid accounting foundation who enjoys full-cycle property accounting and working in a close-knit, high-performing team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties, including AP, AR, and journal entries.
  • Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements, including reconciliations and reporting packages.
  • Oversee rent rolls, tenant chargebacks, and CAM (common area maintenance) recoveries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, GST filings, and adjusting entries related to leases, mortgages, and other property transactions.
  • Support year-end audits and working paper preparation, liaising with external auditors as required.
  • Assist with tenant inquiries related to chargebacks and reconciliations, maintaining strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior accounting staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting or related field; CPA designation (or pursuit of CPA) considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of property management or real estate accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with property management software preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Compensation

  • Salary: $65,000-$75,000 (commensurate with experience).
  • Benefits: Extended health, annual bonus, 3 weeks’ vacation, and educational support.
  • Work Environment: Full-time, in-office role within a collaborative and supportive accounting team.
