About the Role:
The Manager, Project Scheduling plays a pivotal role within the Project Management Office (PMO), providing leadership to a team of project schedulers while ensuring the governance of project schedules, scheduling processes, tools, and systems. The PMO aims to enhance predictability, consistency, transparency and competitiveness-enabling efficiency, capital discipline, and successful project execution.
In this leadership role, you will oversee all PMO project scheduling activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring the accuracy of schedule data in our integrated enterprise project and financial systems, of project schedule reporting in relation to established baselines. You will support decision-making, evaluate schedule changes, and development of processes and reporting tools that drive continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Scheduling Leadership & Execution
- Lead, develop, and maintain standardized scheduling processes, procedures, tools, and systems.
- Oversee and participate in the development of schedules across all project phases, at all levels of detail (Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4).
- Ensure the integration of the Scheduling team with all areas of the organization especially in other areas of Project Controls (Estimating, Risk, Cost, Document control and Change Management).
- Maintain the enterprise system for project schedules, and provide portfolio reporting to various levels of management.
- Review and recommend adjustments to contractor and external agency schedules to ensure accuracy and compliance with guidelines.
- Support project change management as related to schedule changes.
Project & Stakeholder Support
- Provide scheduling services and advice to project teams and senior management.
- Analyze and evaluate contractor schedules, including quality, adherence to guidelines and variances to baseline.
- Prepare reports on schedule variances, impacts of schedule changes and remedial actions.
- Liaise with internal groups and external authorities project scheduling matters.
Team Leadership & Oversight
- Provide guidance, coaching, performance feedback, and training to scheduling staff.
- Ensure safe work practices, effective supervision, and optimal use of human and material resources.
- Establish measurable performance standards for the scheduling team.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Technical Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of project controls, estimating, planning, scheduling, and cost management.
- Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle and cross‑functional integration.
- Experience in Project Management Office environments and managing projects from initiation to closure.
- Expertise in developing and implementing processes, procedures, tools, and systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret large amounts of data and provide sound judgment-based guidance.
- Recognized subject matter expert with experience advising senior leadership.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, and MS Project.
Management & Leadership Skills
- Strong influencing and interpersonal skills, with experience partnering across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Effective facilitation, time management, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience managing performance, setting goals, coaching staff, and making operational decisions.
- Knowledge of relevant human rights, accessibility, and employment-related regulatory requirements.
Education & Certifications
- Degree in a related technical or business discipline OR diploma with extensive related experience.
- 10+ years of progressive project controls experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) an asset.
- AACEI Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) is an asset
