Job Description

This psychology position will be responsible for the augmentation, continued development and maintenance of clinical/consultation services for adult patients referred to the Clinical Health Psychology. This person will work closely with other members of Clinical Health Psychology in the development and provision of these services. The psychologist will be competent in clinical service provision to adult in-patients and out-patients. Adult patients typically referred will have health problems with a significant psychological component or a health problem which requires psychological intervention to assist in treatment. Clinical service will focus on the delivery of psychological interventions and consultation for adults referred by hospital departments and community agents/resources (e.g. health services, family physicians, other health care providers). In addition, the staff psychologist may provide teaching and supervisory services of psychology practicum students, psychology residents, and other health professionals in training

Required Qualifications

  • Eligibility for (and then attainment of) full-practice registration with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists with the Approved Practice Endorsement.
  • Ph.D. Internship Training from an accredited training program
  • PhD in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program

Experience
Doctoral education and internship with declared competency in clinical psychology. Ability to declare Health/Rehabilitation psychology would be an asset and, if undeclared, should be sought after acceptance into this position. Supervised experience and training in the field of Health Psychology. Experience in inpatient work and consultation would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Cultural and socioeconomic awareness and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supervision of psychology students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in psychological assessments of patients through use of standardized psychological tests, clinical interviews, and collateral interviews in order to establish appropriate treatment plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in therapeutic interventions appropriate to an adult health population (e.g. pain management strategies, relaxation training, motivational interviewing, cognitive behaviour strategies, and bio-feedback).
  • Demonstrated presentation and effective teaching skills for clients, colleagues and students.
  • Experience in developing and presenting information to a variety of audiences, both lay and professional.
  • Knowledge and experience of health problems including chronic disease, developmental disorders, emotional and behavioural aspects of illness, hospitalization, and rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of and experience in utilizing a theoretical framework to understand the interplay of physical and mental health.
  • Program development skills.
  • Self-starter with the capability of working collaboratively with others.

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
