Job Description: The Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) Clinic Nurse Clinician is an expert clinical nurse in the study of addictions medicine, specifically in the area of OAT and HIV. The OAT Nurse, in conjunction with the OAT physician team, the OAT Addictions Counsellor, and the Positive Care Nursing team, will complete nursing duties in the administration of the OAT Program. The OAT Nurse Clinician integrates experience and advanced level skills in the provision of direct patient care.

The OAT Nurse Clinician requires skill in collaborative multidisciplinary consultation, particularly with the Positive Care OAT Clinic physician team, the OAT Addictions Counsellor, and the broader outreach team. The position will ensure seamless coordination of clinical planning, treatment protocols, therapeutic activities and client interventions.

Education
  • Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing

Other Education and Training

  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Bachelor of Nursing is acceptable

Competencies

  • Interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years direct nursing experience in primary care, public/community health nursing
  • Experience in the field of addictions medicine, substance dependency and infectious diseases is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with clients engaged in at risk behavior and marginalized populations.
  • Direct experience in clinical or case management care related to HIV/AIDS

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of factors affecting high-risk populations and their family dynamics
  • Knowledge of community resources including treatment programs & support agencies
  • Knowledge in principles/programs/practices in community mental health nursing
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and openness to working w/ diverse populations
