Job Description: Reporting to the Coordinator of Assessment and Counselling, the Community Mental Health Nurse is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include: utilize accepted nursing assessment procedures and techniques to aid in the understanding, treatment and management of youth and young adult clients in Mental Health & Addiction Services. Consults with Psychiatrists and other team members to ensure optimum assessment & treatment for clients. Educate clients and families about mental illness, addictions and medications. Educate parents about developmental issues in the adolescent/early adult years. Provides information/referral to appropriate community resources as required. Provide families with support/direction in time of crisis. Function as client advocate and provide care that reflects acceptance of client/family beliefs, culture, religious and socioeconomic background. Liaise with school systems to maintain youth in school. Liaise with government agencies to obtain vocational placement, funding and home assessments.

Experience
- 3 years nursing experience, 1 of which needs to be working with children and youth mental health
Education
- Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN)
Licenses
- Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
- Valid Driver's License
Other Education and Training
- Bachelor of Nursing is acceptable
- Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
- Workplace Assessment & Violence Education (WAVE)
- Nursing diploma is acceptable

- Knowledge in nursing process
- Knowledge in mental health/illness impacts related to children and adolescents

- Knowledge of the Youth Detox and Stabilization Act
- Initiative & judgment to plan implement/modify treatment programs for clients
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act and Family Services Act
- Ability to be flexible and willing to change
- Knowledge of the EMR program is preferred
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of trauma informed practice
- Knowledge of MHAIS
- Knowledge of MHA theory and impact of MHA/ substance use across the lifespan
Other Information
- Having access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license.
- The position will be primarily based at Ellis Hall and will have parking paid for at Ellis Hall or RUH and will travel in the community to provide services and support to clients and families.

- Registered/eligible with College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of SK - CRPNS
