GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Accountable to the Director, Quality, Safety, and Strategy, the Infection Prevention and Control Consultant (IPCC) is responsible to provide leadership in developing infection control programming and services as well as developing standardized processes for infection prevention and control within the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA).

With support from the Provincial Manager, Patient and Staff Safety as well as the two Patient and Staff Safety Consultants, this position will provide leadership and technical expertise to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency’s provincial infection prevention and control (IPC) program.  This position will work collaboratively with other health partners to ensure alignment of the SCA’s IPC program and other provincial IPC programs.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a health related discipline or 3 - 5 years previous experience working in a healthcare setting with application of Infection Prevention and Control Practices, and either

  • Formal training in Infection Prevention and Control in an Infection Prevention and Control - Canada (IPAC) endorsed course. Preferred Certificate in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC)., OR

  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience working as an Infection Control Practitioner or equivalent.

    • If no certification, formal training must be completed within 2 years of hire.
       

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Infection Control standards and guidelines (i.e. PHAC, CSA, CDC, etc.)

  • Knowledge of microbiology, epidemiologic principles and statistical methods

  • Knowledge of, and skill in, patient care practices

  • Knowledge of First Nations and Metis history in Saskatchewan, along with knowledge of culturally responsive care for First Nations and Metis people
  • Capable of conducting investigations in a thorough and objective manner and development of mitigation strategies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to promote patient and staff safety awareness and deliver education programs 

  • Knowledge of adult teaching principles

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong human relations skills and ability to interact with patients/clients and employees at all levels of the organization and to lead groups independently

  • Knowledge of and experience with analytic tools such as root cause analysis 

  • Familiarity with quality improvement, performance assessment, and risk management functions. 

  • Proficiency working in a computer-based environment using Windows, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and other applications
