Job Description:
Program Management
- Provide leadership, professional development, and guidance to counselling staff, in alignment with Centre policies and directives from the Executive Director.
- Offer clinical supervision to the Addictions Counsellor team, ensuring quality delivery of treatment plans and adherence to best practices.
- Support counsellors in formulating and formalizing individualized client treatment goals and plans, ensuring completion within two (2) days of intake.
- Promote active client participation in lectures, ceremonies, workshops, experiential activities, and group sessions.
- Monitor and manage group dynamics to motivate, engage, and support clients.
- Ensure counsellors utilize existing program materials while respecting diverse therapeutic approaches.
- Provide oversight in managing conflict resolution between clients.
- Ensure risk assessments are completed for at-risk clientele and that appropriate crisis response measures are followed.
- Maintain adherence to organizational communication protocols, professional codes of conduct, and ethical standards.
- Review and ensure client files are accurate, up-to-date, and prepared for closure.
- Stay current with addictions research and evidence-based practices, integrating new knowledge into service delivery.
Operational Duties
- Oversee the ongoing professional development of counselling staff, ensuring alignment with CARF accreditation requirements.
- Review, sign, and submit staff timesheets by deadlines to the Financial Manager.
- Document and review significant events, occurrences, and staff reporting in proper formats (e.g., progress notes, incident reports, treatment summaries).
- Oversee room checks for clients, ensuring safety and compliance with policy, including high-risk and Solicitor General clientele.
- Ensure treatment summary reports (TSRs) are completed promptly upon client discharge or termination; review and sign off on counsellor submissions.
- Support client intake and orientation processes, ensuring contraband checks, risk assessment, and proper admission procedures are followed.
- Oversee client room clearances upon discharge or self-termination.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, training initiatives, and working groups.
- Promote experiential and land-based healing activities as part of treatment programming.
- Immediately report inappropriate or unethical behaviour observed in staff or clients to the Executive Director.
- Support and uphold accreditation processes, ensuring full compliance with CARF standards.
Client Support
- Maintain professional boundaries when engaging with clients while fostering trust and respect.
- Support counsellors in providing one-to-one client counselling, guidance, and crisis intervention when required.
- Provide feedback to clients in a supportive, constructive manner to encourage growth and self-actualization.
- Promote holistic wellness in clients across spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical domains.
- Ensure clients have access to assignments, cultural activities, and resources that support their treatment plans.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of substance use, recovery processes, and related impacts on functioning.
- Uphold Battlefords Treatment Centre’s professional and ethical codes when engaging with clients.
Qualifications
Education & Training
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Addictions, Social Work, Psychology, or a related human services field.
Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor (CCAC) or equivalent certification (preferred).
Registration with a professional body (e.g., SASW - Social Work, College of Psychologists of Saskatchewan) if applicable to discipline.
First Aid/CPR and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) certifications.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI/CPI) and Mental Health First Aid training.
Additional training in trauma-informed care, cultural safety, and Indigenous healing practices strongly recommended.
Experience (Required/Preferred):
Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience in addictions counselling, mental health, or related social services.
At least 2 years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a healthcare or treatment centre environment.
Experience with program delivery, client assessment, crisis intervention, and staff supervision.
Familiarity with CARF accreditation standards and clinical documentation practices.
Experience working with Indigenous communities and applying culturally safe, trauma-informed approaches.

Education
Post-secondary education in addictions, social work, psychology, or related field preferred.
Licenses (Required/Preferred):
- Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor (CCAC) or equivalent (preferred).
- Registration with a professional body such as SASW (Social Work), Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, or SALPN/CRNS (if nursing background).
- Current First Aid/CPR and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
Other Education and Training
Trauma-Informed Care, Grief & Loss, and Harm Reduction training to strengthen client support.
Crisis Response certifications such as ASIST (suicide intervention), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI/CPI), and Mental Health First Aid.
Counselling approaches including Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, and DBT to enhance treatment delivery.
Clinical Supervision and Case Management training to ensure quality oversight and compliance with CARF standards.
Cultural Safety and Indigenous Healing Practices training to integrate traditional and land-based approaches.
Ongoing Ethics, Professional Boundaries, and Documentation training to reinforce accountability and best practices.
