Unit Summary

As part of Hamilton Health Sciences Engineering Department is an integral part of the support services, providing facilities maintenance services to all buildings, wards and departments. (General, JHCC, JCC, St. Peters, WLMH and McMaster Children’s Hospital sites.) The Engineering staff is comprised of numerous and varied trades, including Stationary Engineers in the power plant, Electricians, Plumbers, Millwrights, Carpenters, Painters, etc. all contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the facilities. The department’s goals can best be summarized as SERVICE EXCELLENCE.
 

 


 

Position Summary 

 

Under general supervision is responsible for installing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining equipment, machinery, and building systems in proper working order. Makes mechanical repairs to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilating, steam and refrigeration systems. Performs such other duties as may be assigned. Functions in accordance with duties defined in the job description as a Millwright. May be assigned to work at any HHS site. 


Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday; days 


Qualifications

1. Possess and maintain a current Province of Ontario Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certificate of Qualification
2. Minimum 5 years experience as a qualified tradesperson
3. Previous experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of all types of machinery and equipment
4. Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
5. Demonstrated ability to use tools and equipment of the trade
6. Must be willing to provide own hand tools of the trade
7. Ability to bend, crawl, lift heavy items, climb and work from ladders and scaffolds
8. Ability and willingness to work in areas that are cold, hot, dusty, dirty, noisy, amongst machinery, at elevated levels and have cramped quarters
9. Must be able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment, including a face respirator in areas containing asbestos, or other hazardous materials
