Building Trades Supervisor

The Building Trades Supervisor is responsible for estimating, facilitating, supervising and coordinating all aspects of maintenance management and minor construction activities at one of the five hospital sites operated by Hamilton Health Sciences. Specific responsibilities include: Project cost estimating for clients, supervising and coordinating the activities of skilled and semi-skilled trades including, carpenters, painters, maintenance helpers, etc. The Building Trades Supervisor will coordinate work with other Supervisors, as well as Electricians, Plumbers, Millwrights, as necessary to support his projects and activities. He will requisition necessary equipment and materials to facilitate a fiscally responsible and prompt response to the needs of our clients within clinical and clinical support services at the hospital. The Building Trades Supervisor will provide technical expertise and support to deal with urgent, or emergency situations as they arise. The Building Trades Supervisor promotes an environment that supports creativity, innovation, excellence and continuous learning.


Qualifications

1. Current Province of Ontario trade license as a Carpenter, or other equivalent qualifications
2. Five or more years of recent relevant management and technical experience.
3. Ability to manage multiple trades staff and effectively delegate work
4. Demonstrated skills in applied technical knowledge, estimating, cost control and project management
5. Previous experience in a leadership capacity with excellence in team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
6. Evidence of commitment to continuous education through the pursuit of studies relevant to the position
7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to effectively and courteously communicate with subordinates, peers and superiors within the hospital community
