Position: Unit Assistant

Department: Nursing Resource Team

Status: Temporary Full-Time (Approximately 1 year)

Hours: Monday to Sunday; 1100-1900 (Hours may be subject to change based on operational needs.)

As a member of the Clinical team, the Unit Assistant will be primarily responsible for providing a supportive and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.

This is what you’ll be doing:

  • Communication-participating in on unit huddles and bullet rounds, answering call bells
  • Equipment Cleaning in between patient use in rooms and gyms
  • Role in assisting with repositioning, boosting and mobilizing patients
  • Stocking of linen and supply cupboards
  • Nourishment-feeding of patients that require assistance, meal set up, communicating with clinical leads on patient intake
  • Related duties as required

This is what you’ll need to do it:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Recent practical and related experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Must be able to work well in a team setting
  • Must possess English language verbal communication skills and literacy skills sufficient to understand verbal and written instructions and to read procedure manuals
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and function independently
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including: continuous standing and walking, forward bending, pushing/pulling carts and reaching. Some overhead reaching, squatting, climbing and heavy lifting of up to 30 lbs
  • May be required to work and adapt to multiple areas
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record

The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.

Salary: $26.98 to $27.46 per hour

** Unit Assistant rates includes $2.00 Ministry Permanent Compensation Enhancement effective April 28, 2022
