How you’ll make an impact
Leverage your expertise and experience in speechwriting and editing, strategic communication and team leadership to manage a team of senior writers delivering high-impact speeches, writing and external communications pieces and strategies that support FCC’s corporate goals.
As a Manager, External Communication, you’ll guide a high-performing, nimble team of senior writers, liaise and collaborate seamlessly with colleagues at all levels and across teams, and provide strategic insights and communications advice to senior leaders. Your exemplary collaborative skills and organizational acumen will ensure clear, consistent messaging to key audiences.
If you’re an experienced writer and editor and people leader who brings sound judgment, a strong grasp of the external landscape and a passion for leading high‑performing teams, this role offers the opportunity to shape FCC’s national reputation. Advanced skills in collaborative project management and workflow process management will be essential to your success in this role.
What you’ll do
Working with colleagues across teams, develop and approve speeches, key messages, communications pieces and deliverables
Triage and curate a broad network of internal partners and collegial relationships integral to the external and internal communications process
Be an expert organizer, collegial collaborator, process and workflow manager as well as a creative leader
Help manage FCC’s reputation through seamless and frequent collaboration with teammates across the external and internal communications functions, and across the broader organization
Skillfully align current priorities with corporate strategy goals, leveraging storytelling and narrative to make FCC’s work and objectives concrete for various audiences
What you’ll bring to the team
Required qualifications:
A degree in communication, journalism, arts or English
At least ten years of related experience
A proven record of success in leading, coaching and developing teams
In-depth knowledge of strategic communication principles and best practices
Experience in issues management and crisis communication
Demonstrated expertise in process and workflow leadership in a complex information environment
A robust network of professional communications and media contacts
Expertise in strategic communications development
Preferred qualifications:
Proven team leadership and collaborative skills
Proven writing and editing skills
Knowledge of finance and the Canadian agriculture and food industry
Facility with the full range of technical and digital communication and presentation tools
Experience in government or an understanding of government policy
Experience in daily journalism
Bilingualism (English and French)
