Job Description

Reporting to the Occupational Therapist/Rehab Manager, the Restorative Aide assists with the planning, organization and implementation of restorative care programs to help residents achieve their rehabilitative goals. The Restorative Aide works alongside the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist in assessing our residents’ rehabilitation needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of restorative care including positioning, ambulation, physical functioning, and activities of daily living in collaboration with OT/PT.

  • Facilitate procurement of mobility aids, assistive devices, and rehab equipment for residents under the direction of OT/PT.

  • Member of the Falls Team and Safe Resident Handling Team - Attend monthly meetings and interdisciplinary care reviews as required.

  • Supports/provides education on lifts and transfers within the facility.

  • Conducts audits on lifts, slings, and wheelchairs.

  • Maintains department records, equipment records, clerical information, and monitors Rehab equipment inventory as required.

  • Promotes and supports a team environment.

  • Maintains appropriate resident and department records including assessments, and evaluations of planned programs detailing anticipated individual participation.

  • Maintains effective communication, good rapport, and collaboration with residents, families, volunteers, and staff.

  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);

  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • OTA/PTA Certification or equivalent.

  • Experience working with seniors, particularly in a long-term care setting.

  • Experience with the Assistive Device Program (ADP) applications.

  • Experience with mobility equipment (wheelchair and walker repairs) and assistive devices.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English with residents, staff, families, and community partners in both written and oral form.

  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with seniors and who possesses excellent planning and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

  • Mentally and physically able to perform responsibilities as outlined.

Position Type:

  • Full-time permanent

  • Must be able to work alternating weekends

  • Compensation and benefits as per the collective agreement.
