Maintenance Supervisor
Report ToAdministrator
Qualifications3-5 years relevant experience and/or knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and ventilation systems. Technical training in building maintenance is preferred.
Technical CompetenciesAbility to:
perform general maintenance tasks i.e. electrical, carpentry, welding, plumbing, painting
read and interpret manuals, blueprints related to equipment and systems
use a variety of tools
read, write and communicate effectively in English
organize and plan work and maintenance schedules
problem solve and use project management principles
work safely, following established safety practices and procedures
Has a solid understanding of the Health and Safety Act
Experience1-2 years experience in building maintenance preferably in an institutional setting

Key Accountabilities
Examples
Human Resources
- ensures that contractors work in accordance with company standards
- participates in orientation of new staff
Inventory Control
- identifies and maintains adequate inventory to facilitate timely repairs
Environmental Management
- implements preventative maintenance program including adherence with legislative monitoring standards
- completes ongoing repairs as identified
- coordinates and oversees the work of external contractors for out of scope repairs
- checks and repairs resident equipment to ensure that they are safe
- participates as an active member of the health and safety team
- maintains required records, reports, statistics etc. in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner and assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.
Customer Service
- respects residents privacy
- advocates for the resident
- works in collaboration with other staff to ensure minimal disruption to resident
- participates in developing action plans to resolve customer complaints/concerns
Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities
- Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy.
- Follow safe work practices as directed by their supervisor and as required by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Participate in all required occupational health and safety training.
- Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing, as required by Extendicare/ParaMed.
- Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor.
- Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk.

- Respect and preserve the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times. Violations of this statement include, but are not limited to:
- accessing confidential information that is not within the scope of the individuals duties
- misusing, disclosing without proper authorization, or altering confidential information
- disclosing to another person the unique username or password for accessing electronic confidential health care information
- using another person’s username or password to access information
- discussing confidential information in a public area
- leaving confidential health care or employee information in public areas
- disposing of confidential information inappropriately
