Role Description: Director of Care- Advocate for resident safety and continuous quality improvement in care delivery.
- Achieve high resident and family engagement, as measured through experience survey results, by caring for each individual as we would our own family.
- Consistently meet or exceed all quality and clinical indicators through effective execution of clinical programs.
- Foster a positive culture and employee experience, increasing overall employee engagement year over year.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance regarding resident care plans, organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
- Cultivate: Lead the resident care team, providing daily guidance and fostering a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment that supports high performance and retention.
- Train: Ensure all care staff receive the education required to perform their roles effectively and support ongoing professional development.
- Financial Stewardship: Manage the care staffing model in alignment with Extendicare standards and legislated care hours. Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis for the nursing department.
- Comply: Monitor and ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and employment legislation, including timely investigations and action plans.
- Risk Management: Identify and manage resident issues, mitigate clinical risks, and ensure prompt action on critical incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Customer Service: Apply a customer service mindset by responding to feedback (complaints, recognition, suggestions) from residents, families, vendors, and team members with empathy and professionalism.
- Resident Care: Oversee resident assessment and care planning processes, ensuring individualized care plans are aligned with resident preferences.
- Collaborate: Work closely with the leadership team and liaise with care staff, residents, and families to optimize care delivery.
- Improve: Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident safety, wellness, and satisfaction.
- Strategic Planning: Develop operational clinical and staffing plans aligned with home-level strategic priorities.
- Community Partnership: Engage vendors on quality initiatives and training; collaborate with community health partners to enhance resident care.
- Values Alignment: Uphold and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, Values, and ethical standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Master’s degree preferred).
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) registration with the applicable provincial licensing body.
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role within long-term care or a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and build strong relationships.
- Experience implementing quality improvement initiatives that drive positive resident outcomes.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and relevant technologies.
