Position Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a mature, reliable, multi-tasker to add to our Red Deer operations. The Landfill Attendant is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of traffic and customers at the City of Red Deer Waste Management Facility.

Position Responsibilities

  • Ensure all required PPE is worn at all times
  • Continuous communication and education relating to Waste Management Facility material acceptance and placement policy
  • Litter picking the entire Waste Management Facility property and adjacent lands as required
  • Ensure active tipping face are running efficiently throughout the day, assist in other areas where required
  • Ensure Waste Management Facility is maintained in a clean, professional manner
  • Ensure facility is operated in accordance to applicable regulations, guidelines and with all required approvals
  • Coordinate with City of Red Deer Waste Management Facility Scale Attendants and Site Inspector to maximize efficiency and maintain a safe work environment
  • Ensure requests made by the City of Red Deer Waste Management Facility Inspector are met
  • Ensure interactions with the public are done in a courteous and professional manner
  • Educate customers about the types of waste or recyclables accepted at the different locations within the Waste Management Facility
  • Identify potentially recyclable materials being dropped off and educate customers about recycling opportunities
  • Ensure adequate signage and barricades are utilized in order to direct customers to the appropriate locates and warn of potential hazards at the Waste Management Facility
  • Ensure any public or private disposal vehicles are not granted access to the Waste Management Facility outside of the normal hours of operation without the prior approval from The City of Red Deer
  • Direct customer traffic at tipping face and facilitate dumping of loads in a safe, efficient manner
  • Snow removal and de-ice areas where foot traffic occurs as required
  • Capable of handling up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs) for loading/unloading and moving of waste materials
  • Willing to work in all types of weather and confined spaces as required

Qualifications

  • Class 5 Driver’s license is required
  • Exhibit initiative and responsibility as well as an understanding of the capabilities of the facility
  • Ability to carry out written or oral instructions
  • Exhibit a high level of initiative, work performance and responsibility in the of duties
  • Previous experience working in a Landfill environment is considered an asset
  • Previous scale experience is considered an asset
  • Able to work outside in the elements.
  • Teamwork
  • Must be safety orientated
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment D&A testing
