DESCRIPTION
You will be responsible for a range of nursing care activities based on the bio-psycho-social needs of assigned users or groups of people. You will assess users’ state of health, and determine and ensure the implementation of nursing care and treatment plans for users with complex health problems and/or various bio-psycho-social dimensions. You will provide nursing and medical care and treatment to maintain and restore health, and prevent disease.
You will design, apply and evaluate care programs requiring advanced knowledge, aimed at complex health problems and/or involving various bio-psycho-social dimensions. You will participate in the development or adaptation of clinical and quality-of-care assessment tools, coordinate teamwork and play an advisory role with colleagues and the interdisciplinary team.
You will identify, for users, the needs and interventions requiring a coordination of services within the institution and between different institutions or organizations in the community. You will coordinate these services, as needed.
You will onboard new staff and help train interns. You will supervise the teaching of users, their relatives and groups of people in specific programs and will collaborate on research.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Reporting to the coordinator of the community level infection and emerging risk team in Public Health department, your main role will be to contribute to the planning and implementation of the Health Protection team’s initiatives for infectious diseases, including pandemic-related activities.
Support for infectious disease interventions
• Participate in contact tracing for infectious diseases, including direct intervention with affected individuals.
• Assist with epidemic management: investigations, case tracking, support for control measures.
• Support the management of infectious and chemical notifiable diseases: investigations, interventions, monitoring of situations, and online data entry.
• Collaborate with medical consultants and relevant departments during investigations into infectious diseases.
• Participate in active surveillance, analysis of epidemiological data, and development of strategies tailored to identified needs.
Contribution to health protection programs
• Help develop, implement and improve health protection programs.
• Help ensure that program activities are carried out in accordance with cultural safety principles.
• Support the development of tools, procedures, protocols, and documents related to infectious diseases and health protection.
• Participate in knowledge transfer (training, educational tools, updating practices) for clinical staff and the regional team.
• Alongside regional and local teams, support priority public health issues, including epidemic response, post-pandemic recovery, and any other programs prioritized by your immediate supervisor.
Interdisciplinary collaboration and team support
• Collaborate with regional teams and act as a resource person for colleagues and interdisciplinary teams.
• Help onboard and integrate new clinical staff within the Public Health - SERP team.
• Contribute to the activities of the interdisciplinary Health Protection team, in collaboration with regional and local teams.
Participation in regional activities and emergency response
• Participate in the implementation of the regional public health plan and related activities.
• Be temporarily mobilized during a public health emergency, according to the mechanisms in place.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
• Member in good standing of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ)
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or undergraduate diploma, including three eligible certificates, at least two of which must be recognized certificates in nursing care
• Proficiency in the Québec Immunization Program
• Three (3) years of diverse nursing experience
• Two (2) years of experience in health protection in a public health setting
• Experience in managing reportable diseases
• Experience in managing food- and waterborne outbreaks
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Extensive expertise in public and community health prevention and promotion approaches, methods, issues and programs
• In-depth knowledge of First Nations contexts
• Knowledge of the MSSSQ’s programs and regulations with respect to first-line services
• Experience in curative nursing care or community health in a similar environment
• Knowledge of Cree culture and of social and health issues on the Eeyou Istchee territory
• Familiarity with Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms
• Excellent teaching skills
• Excellent communication skills (group facilitation, writing, and presenting)
• Excellent interpersonal skills: active listening, leadership, and teamwork
• Strong critical analysis, organization and decision-making skills
• Good command of computer tools: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
LANGUAGES
• Fluency in English and French
• Fluency in the Cree language, an asset

• This position is currently available as a remote work opportunity, subject to operational needs. Please note that this is not a permanent condition of the position and that the employer reserves the right to require regular physical presence in the office.
