Summary of Function:
The Natural Resources Directorate is seeking a qualified individual for the full-time position of Science Coordinator to coordinate our research programs and projects; and enhance our internal capacity to incorporate community knowledge. Currently, the NRD manages biological research programs for salmon, lobster, and scallop aquaculture; and delivers environmental recovery projects related to habitat recovery. The purpose of our research is to govern our fisheries in a responsible and sustainable manner, utilizing our research and knowledge to make informed decisions. This position consists of working under the direction of the Science Manager and working closely with the biologist and field supervisors to coordinate science research staff field activities and collaborate with external organizations on related files or projects (i.e. Gespe’gawa’gi Institute of Natural Understanding, DFO Science, Watershed Groups). The role also requires participation in field research and work with the NRD science team supervisors to identify gaps and needs (i.e., protocol delivery and efficiency, training, policy, safety) in field research operations.

Job Duties:
• Coordinate research programs and projects activities; including but not limited to the phases of; initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, closing, and analysis.
• Coordination of asset management related to research equipment (purchasing, inventory, maintenance, calibration, and storage; also ensuring safety and research equipment is in optimal working condition and is being used properly.
• Coordinate data collection and assist in data management (identifying metrics, collection, entry, database maintenance, analysis, and reporting results).
• Assist in Project Administration and Coordination related to project proposals, activity coordination, purchasing, and activity reporting.
• Assist in communication and technical reporting to leadership, community, and other relevant decision-making, technical or advisory bodies.
• Assist in the capacity development for NRD to work with community knowledge in decision-making; including but not limited to; interviewing techniques, language and storytelling, geographic information systems, protocols and consent, ceremonies and value systems).
• Collaborate with external organizations to enhance the capacity of research teams and science programs.
• Work with Science manager to supervise research teams protocol delivery and assess performance and safety need and promote best practices via communication, coaching, or on-site training.
• Assist Science Manger in addressing human resource issues.
• Attend relevant conferences or community events as required.

Requirements
• Valid Driver License
• Technical Diploma in the areas of Natural Sciences, Indigenous Knowledge, Environmental Technology, or relevant field; or relevant work experience and on-the-job training.
