Description

Field of activities:
Under the authority of the Mohawk Council of Kanesatake and direct supervision of the Director of Education, the Principal is responsible for the organization, instructional program and operations of the school to which he/she is assigned.

The School Principal is a school leader who shall act in accordance with the regulations and policies of the MCK. The Principal shall ensure that the implementation of pedagogy, policies and programs are aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of the system, and are in the best interests of students by:

Focusing on student needs;
Facilitating achievement;
Raising standards;
Ensuring equity, and;
Enhancing accountability.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in Education or Bachelor’s degree in Education with at least 7 years teaching experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior administrative position, preferably in a First Nations environment
Knowledge of schools and community services available in a First Nations Community
Excellent organizational skills
Knowledge of First Nations pedagogy
Experience in school management
First Nations heritage preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent written and oral skills; and
Strong judgment and leadership in both educational and managerial matters
Planning ability will reflect an excellent knowledge of First Nations culture, current educational issues and forward thinking to best meet the needs of the community

Probation Period: The successful candidate will be subjected to a six (6) month probation period.
