About Kahnawà:ke Education Center:
The Kahnawà:ke Education Center is an administrative body responsible to deliver locally controlled elementary and secondary school programs and services for Kateri School, Karonhianonhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstahkhwa, and the Kahnawake Survival School. The KEC administers and supports postsecondary programs and their clients.
The KEC is governed by the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) who are responsible to maintain and uphold all legislation, policies and procedures of the KEC.

Position Summary:
The main purpose of the Educational Research Consultant role is to implement the KEC Research Policy and Code of Ethics by coordinating, supporting, develop and enhancing KEC educational research projects and partnerships within the KEC. The Educational Research Consultant works in collaboration with the Curriculum Team Coordinator as well as the KEC Research Advisory to ensure research practices and partnerships are ethical, respectful and safe for all KEC students and education staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To ensure that education research contributes to the most current strategic goals of the KEC.
  • To ensure educational research with the KEC is reflective of the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, and policies as determined by the KEC.
  • To oversee the implementation and monitoring of the KEC Research Policy and Code of Ethics.
  • To critically assess and advise on proposed research projects and partnerships to ensure they adhere to ethical, respectful and safe research practices.
  • To support research projects throughout the main phases of the work and ensure their timely development in accordance to the KEC Research Policy and Code of Ethics.
  • To work in collaboration with the KEC Research Advisory Board, staff, and school administration in implementing the KEC Research Policy and Code of Ethics and processes.
  • To organize advisory groups and meetings at various stages of the research projects in accordance to the KEC Research Policy and Code of Ethics
  • To use various methods of assessing research outcomes and their effectiveness while also to analyzing potential risks and harms from the modes of assessment.
  • To ensure final research reports and findings are shared with all stakeholders in a way that is understandable and accessible to the community while respecting the terms of the partnership and participants.
  • To measure the impacts and outcomes of research projects and partnerships.
  • To consult with the KEC Curriculum Team and administrative teams as needed to determine the efficacy and suitability of proposed research partnerships and projects.
  • To support researchers and involved participants in overcoming obstacles that do not risk the wellbeing of participants and of Kahnawà:ke.
Requirements:
  • Master’s or PhD in Education with a strong background in Indigenous community based educational research.
  • Strong knowledge and comprehension of the pedagogical and administrative direction of the Kahnawà:ke Education System, as well as all school programs and services.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Rotinonhsión:ni foundational teachings and world view.
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office suite of products
  • Knowledge of cultural and community dynamics and its effect on school system operations.
  • General knowledge of cultural norms, traditions and expectations of students and families.
